- Turn off the water while you’re brushing your teeth. Letting the water run when you’re not even using it is such a waste, it’s a small adjustment, but it has a bigger impact than you think.
- Recycle! There are recycling bins all around campus, everywhere from the HUC to the library, so instead of throwing your Starbucks cup away, throw it in the recycling bin! It takes three seconds of your time, but rather than ending up in a landfill, it could be made into a playground for kids!
- Volunteer. There are awesome opportunities all around Alabama, and they’re not just limited to Earth Day. Help restore houses affected by the recent tornadoes or do a beach cleanup. Earth Day isn’t all about planting trees (more on that later), it’s about making the earth a better place than we found it. Here are some awesome volunteer opportunities.
- With that being said, plant something! If you’re like me, and you kill everything green, start small with a few herbs on your windowsill. I have indoor basil and parsley, and I use them all of the time in cooking. If you’re feeling ambitious, go ahead and plant a rose bush or a garden.
- Go outside! Embrace earth day and head outdoors for a study session on the green or a Zumba class in railroad park, it’s an instant mood booster!
