We Are Her Campus: Caitlin Tan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Wyoming chapter.

Name: Caitlin Tan

Year: Senior

Degree Sought: Journalism

Hometown: Pinedale, Wyoming

Her Campus: Why did you decide to attend school at UW?

Caitlin Tan: To be honest, it wasn’t my first choice. But, I didn’t get into my dream school nor could I have ever afforded it. However, UW has been the best second choice I have ever made.

HC: Why did you choose your degree?

CT: I chose journalism because I love telling a story whether that be hard news or a lengthy feature. Hardworking, passionate journalists are what will help the truth always prevail.

HC: What is your dream job?

CT: Literally any position with NPR.

HC: What are some of your hobbies?

CT: I’m an outdoors enthusiast. I grew up riding horses and exploring nature. I’m currently obsessed with mountain biking.

Also, trying new tea in oversized mugs.

HC: What is your favorite class/professor at UW?

CT: My favorite professor at UW has by far been Professor William Downs. His quirky theatrics and racing intelligent mind have never ceased to captivate me. My favorite of his classes was Varieties of Non-Belief, co-taught with Professor Tyler Fall. Regardless whether one is religious or not I think it’s a great thought-provoking class.

HC: What advice would you give to freshmen?

CT: You Are Okay. I needed to hear this more often as a freshman. Any insecurities or worries you might have just remember you are wonderful just as you are. Truly.

HC: Why did you join Her Campus?

CT: I joined Her Campus to pursue less serious writing. I spend the majority of my time interning in a hard news setting, so writing more light-hearted or even introspective pieces is a really great challenge.

HC: What is your favorite article/event/memory from HC?

CT: I wrote a piece on eating disorders, including my personal experience. It was rejuvenating to write about such a complicated time in my life.

HC: Why would you encourage someone else to write for HC?

CT: Her Campus is a great organization that not only encourages writing, but feminism! I think it’s great for women to have a place to collaborate together and write.

HC: What are you most looking forward to moving forward in HC?

CT: Our clothing swap!

I studied abroad in Angers, France. I hope to live abroad one day.

I have the sweetest, coolest dog named Delilah.

I have a pretty neat boyfriend whom I met while studying abroad.

Kaitlyn is a recent grad the University of Wyoming, where she got her degree in Marketing. She has been the Campus Correspondent for a Pink level chapter, a Chapter Advisor to some amazing chapters, and now has the pleasure of being a Region Leader. Born and raised on the Western Slope of Colorado, her love for nature and the outdoors comes naturally. Kaitlyn lives for football season, but finds way to stay preoccupied during the off-season. She enjoys long walks in the mountains, beer as cold as her heart, and bacon on her burgers. You can follow Kaitlyn’s adventures on Instagram, @kaysoup.
I'm a senior at the University of Wyoming studying Journalism, as well as a part-time hippie and cowgirl. I'm always craving a solid mountain bike ride or general activites with my dog Delilah. You can generally find me in the mountains, drinking tea, at the Wyoming Public Radio station or the produce aisle at Safeway.
