To The Girl Who Needs To Recognize Her Strength

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Wyoming chapter.

Let’s pause for a moment. Think back to either a few weeks ago, months ago or even several years ago. Back to the times where moments, situations and experiences were not the best. Those moments where you either lost control, whether it was your mindset or really just yourself. Those situations that you thought were near impossible to ever overcome at the time and the ones that you or anyone else didn’t think would come out alright. Well guess what, if you’re reading this article, then chances are, you survived. You made it. And guess what else? It doesn’t stop here. I think everyone can relate to this on some sort of level.

You can’t tell me that there has never been a time that was difficult for you or a situation that really tested your strength. I’ve had my fair share of experiences and they most certainly won’t be the last because really, what would life be anyway if it wasn’t filled with hardships? As obvious as it may seem, it just wouldn’t be life. Life isn’t easy and it doesn’t ever get any easier. It’s just the way it is and you have to accept that fact. So, the real question is, how do we continue to go about living our life, journey, whatever you want to call it without some experiences totally defeating us from one end to another? Acknowledgement, remembrance and action. Trust me, I’m not here to give any proven or successful advice. I’m here to pretty much vent, but to also remind anyone that is reading this to recognize their strength.

There are so many times I think people forget this simple statement, including myself. People often forget this when something difficult is happening in their lives. They are so consumed with what is currently going on, that it slowly defeats them each and every day. It’s hard not to be consumed by your problems, but it’s even worse to stay consumed with your current problem than it is to acknowledge that  you can do something about it. So, to any girl that is reading this, do me a favor. Recognize how strong you are and how far you’ve already come.

The person who has got you this far in your life is you. And without you recognizing your strength at those previous times, you wouldn’t be here and where you are currently today. I want you to not only recognize how strong you actually are, but to remember your old self. The one that was full of dreams and adventure. The one who enjoyed the most simple things. The one who was carefree and all she really wanted was to have a good time. The one who embraced life and was full of happiness, before life turned bitter. That girl is still there within you and she always will be, just as long as you remember who she is, what she’s capable of and how much strength she has within her.

So, whenever another obstacle is thrown your way, let her remember that strength. Let her remember those past experiences and what she did to go through those obstacles gracefully. Let her remember to tell herself that she can do it and everything will be okay. Let her remember that even though it may take some time and the results might not come fast, to keep going anyway. Let her depend on just herself for that strength and continuous advice, because without it, she will not continue. Every strong girl knows that it is her responsibility to take control of her life and current situation in order to not only remain strong, but to keep that spark within her, alive.
