Food for Thought: Best Late Night Food

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Wyoming chapter.

As college students we all know what’s really on our mind; food. Food for Thought will be a blog series reviewing restaurants, coffee shops, and fast food around town that are all a key part to the UW student lifestyle. For the next few weeks I will be using my expertise as a Laramie native to help you find the best place to eat for any occasion.

This weekend I was reminded of how sleep deprived I become during the school year. There’s always a concert to go to, a football game that goes until 2:30 am, or friends to catch up with. There never seems to be enough time in the day, so instead we chose to stay up late. Of course the real challenge of functioning at all hours of the night is finding a place to eat. Whether you’re a freshman discovering late nights are part of the college culture, or an experienced senior who thinks 12:00 a.m. is an early bed time, here are the best places to stop for food.

Applebee’s-

Applebee’s is a family favorite for many here in Laramie, but few know that they also cater to the late night foodie. On weeknights they are open until 11:00 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays they are open until 12 a.m. If you are starving you could order a full meal, but after 9:00 p.m. their appetizers are half price! You have plenty of options to chose from, my favorites being the boneless wings, spinach dip, and mozzarella sticks. It’s a great place to sit down and catch up with friends while satisfying those late night food cravings.

D.P. Dough-

If you’re hungry and really don’t feel like leaving the house D.P. Dough will happily make a late night delivery. They are open late on any day of the week;  Monday-Wednesday 2:00 a.m., Thursday-Saturday 3:00 a.m., and 1:00 a.m. on Sundays. Along with their huge calzones you can carb load on breadsticks and cinnamon sticks. Their newest and most unique menu item, cheesy bacon tots. So now you can finish that Netflix series, uninterrupted, and have great food to go with it.

Almanza’s-

Almanza’s has gained quite the reputation among UW students. On a late Friday night the place will be packed, because cheap Mexican food sounds great to any drunk college student. Plus, it’s one of the few restaurants here in town that is open 24 hours. They are known for their breakfast burritos and have a wide variety of salsas to choose from. My personal favorite is the California burrito; steak, french fries, and sour cream wrapped in a warm tortilla. Fast food with a great price, so you can continue your late night adventures.
