Over the past few months I have been thinking about why I write and how it has helped me through my life. Difficult situation arises? Write about it. Amazing day with friends? Write about it. I spend a lot of time in front of my computer just writing notes or stories, and I have noticed a substantial change in my overall well-being. It’s amazing what writing as done, and continues to do, for me. So, here are some reasons why I write everyday.

1) Relaxation

Have you ever had so many things going on in your life that you can’t seem to relax? This seems to be a super common trend among college students, especially for me. When I feel like I have too much going on, I take 5 minutes to sit and write. I can write anything from lists to full blown essays, and my tension seems to be instantly relieved.

2) Creativity

I have never been the creative type, just ask my high school art teacher. There are times though when I want to be/feel creative. The ideas for my writing have to be pretty bland to any creative writer, but they are my ideas and I am able to bring them to life through words.

3) Fun

Writing doesn’t have to be all advanced essays and lab reports. You can make things fun! When I’m feeling down or bored with my day, I’ll grab my laptop or notebook and write about anything. Usually I retell stories from when I was younger because it’s like reliving that day all over again.

4) Daily Challenge

Don’t get me wrong, writing is hard. That is another reason why I write. Writing is a completely different challenge than the work I do on a daily basis. It challenges me to think about some abstract topic and put it into words. Not to mention, I am not the best typer/speller so writing constantly challenges me to better myself in these areas.

5) Entertainment

Reading is just as cool as writing, and when I can write something that I know will be read, I feel awesome inside. I would like to think that my writing is entertaining for all who read it. It gives them a break from their everyday tasks to just relax and enjoy something.

Abbey is a senior at the University of Wyoming and is currently majoring in Journalism. She couldn't imagine a world without Jesus, coffee, The 1975, Twitter or her family. You'll usually find her at a concert or cafe somewhere, which is where she spends majority of her free-time. Talking to band members after their shows is a hobby, along with thrifting & indulging in all aspects of pop culture. After college, she plans to spend more time at concerts, getting paid to write about music and bands.
