5 Modern Christmas Song Covers that Beat the Originals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Wyoming chapter.

There are two types of people during the holidays: those who love Christmas music and those who hate it. Even as someone who really enjoys a good Christmas song, I’m really not a fan of many of the older classics that play on the radio year after year. Here are some amazingly well done modern covers of the classics that will change your idea of Christmas music—and just might convert your Christmas music-loathing friends.

1. Let it Snow by She & Him

She & Him is the adorable, folksy duet of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, and they deliver a sweet little version of the classic in this cover. For a good treasure chest of Christmas tunes, you can check out their two Christmas albums.

2. I’ll Be Home for Christmas by Demi Lovato

I can’t say I was fully aware that Demi Lovato had such an astonishing voice until hearing this. It’s still the mellow tune it’s traditionally been, but with some amazing pipes.

3. White Christmas by George Ezra

I may be partial to this one because I’m in love with George Ezra. He puts a fun twist on White Christmas and accompanies it with some unique instrumentals that are sure to fill you with warmth.

4. Little Drummer Boy by Jars Of Clay

This cover is quite a bit older, but continues to be my favorite version of Little Drummer Boy. Its upbeatness is a necessary addition to your Christmas playlist.

5. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas by Michael Buble

Because you can’t really experience the Christmas season without some Buble playing in the background. This song continues to be one of Michael Buble’s most popular, because it’s simply beautiful–just the right combination of classy and cozy.

If you think you’ve heard Jingle Bell Rock one too many times this season, give one of these merry ballads a shot.
