With Halloween just around the corner I’m sure you’ve all been busy planning out your costumes, arranging plans with friends, and looking forward to that cheap November 1st candy. But, if you’re like me and haven’t even finished your readings for this week and are now wondering where October has gone, then this article is for you.
Last Minute Costume Ideas
The Soda Pop Gang is an easy DIY costume that my friends and I did last year (I’m the Pepsi can). It was great because all we had to do was get dresses, cut out cardboard outlines of pop brands, and paint onto them with fabric paint.
A cheap and easy costume which you can make (and re-wear) is The Robber. This basic black pants and striped shirt combo is probably already in your closet so all you have to do is grab a bag and draw a large dollar sign on it and you’re good to go!
Onesie? Check. Stuffed animal? Check times about a hundred. Ability to make pigtails? Check-a-roo. Congratulations, you are now able to pull off the Big Kid costume (and stay warm) all night long!
I love this 101 Dalmations because you can have as many people involved as you want! White clothes plus black spots is a very adaptable costume too which is great depending on what you already have in your wardrobe.
And finally, what kind of costume post would this be if I didn’t include the Classic Cat costume!
Now that you have that sorted, you need to get in the All Hallow’s Eve spirit! You can go to the Galey Farms pumpkin patch on Blenkinsop Road. It’s just a 20 minute trip on the 26 or the 16 from the UVic bus loop! There you can go through a corn maze, a haunted house, and pick pumpkins!
Also, the Uvic Me to We club is collecting donations on October 29th for the event We Scare Hunger. They can accept any canned food and nonperishable items. If you have the ability to donate anything you can drop it off at the University Welcome Center at 5:30 or you can even join the club for the night and collect nonperishables from the neighborhood with them! You can sign up to volunteer here until October 24th.
So after you’ve planned ahead for the big day and are almost good to go- check out these yummy Halloween themed recipes!
There’s this easy Pumpkin Seed Recipe which makes the seeds nice and salty:
Here is a twist on the classic caramel apple recipe which looks pretty cool because it turns them into Caramel Apple Nachos!
And because obviously we need to indulge our sweet teeth (tooths?) even more, here’s a Candy Corn Lookalike Cupcake Recipe! (For all the candy corn haters out there you don’t have to worry because it doesn’t taste like candy corn)
