V-Day Plans as Told by the HC at UVic Team

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

Regardless of whether or not you have an SO, wanting to celebrate Valentine’s Day is a totally natural desire! Whether you’re looking for something to do with your crew or an idea for a hot date with your partner, HC at UVic has got you covered!

Relationship Plans

Low-Key Long-Term Relationships

Have you and your SO been a thing for a while? Maybe you were best friends beforehand and now are besties who just happen to be dating? Maybe you’re just super comfortable with one another! No matter the situation, there are a variety of things that you and your person can do. If you two just love spending time together, keep up with your everyday! HC at UVic member Jasmine suggests simply “sharing a bottle of wine and watching a [movie].” Up the ante by making your SO a special Valentine’s Day dessert!

Exciting Long-Term Relationships

Are you and your SO a little bit more on the adventurous side? Instead of a gift, go on an adventure with your SO! Drive up to Esquimalt Lagoon for a day or head to Grouse to do some skating. Ellen suggests that when you and your partner are done with your adventurous day, you head back home and “cook a fun dinner together”.

Long Distance Relationships

Why not go the distance and plan to visit your SO for V-day! One HC at UVic member is planning on flying over to surprise her SO! She isn’t sure what they are going to do but when you do long distance, “being in each other’s presence…[is] so nice!” Not able to visit? Send your SO a V-Day themed care package that they can ONLY open on the 14th! If you can, have your SO open the present over Skype with you!

I’m Not Sure What We Are/New Relationships

If you and your partner haven’t been dating for long, it’s best to not put a ton of pressure on plans for Valentine’s Day. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t still do something cute! Planning a different date (such as trying to bake something ridiculous, like pretzels) or exchanging cards and chocolates are ways you two can have fun without stressing out!

Plans with the Crew

Galentine’s Day

Grab your girls and spend the day with them! Deia plans on having some girlfriends over to watch movies and eat chocolate. If you and your friends are super girlie, make reservations for a nice restaurant ASAP and get dolled up for the occasion. Dressing up is a good excuse to look hot for yo self and to snap pics!

Chilling with Friends

Are you and your friends a little bit more low key? Grab a couple of friends and Netflix and literally chill. Treating V-Day like every other day is totally okay (because it is just another day)! There’s no need to do anything special. Liz finds that “[n]ot being in a relationship” can be bothersome on V-Day but as long as she is “[surrounded] with good fun-loving people,” it’s a great time.

The Fam Jam

Going home

If you are able to be home during Valentine’s day, appreciate the day of love and spend time with your family! If you haven’t seen your fam in a while, like Sophie, it can be “really nice to just hang out and…catch up”. Personally, my mum and I have always given each other gifts on Valentine’s Day. They aren’t ever anything too extravagant; just little tokens of love exchanged during a chocolate-induced coma.

Showing Love from Abroad

If you aren’t able to be with your family, make an effort to reach out to them. Maybe you don’t call your mum as often as she would like you to as you should! This day of recognizing your loved ones would be the perfect opportunity to give her a ring or plan a Skype chat. Don’t forget your grandparents. I know I definitely don’t call my grandma enough, so I plan on fully catching up with her on V-Day!
