On Saturday, January 31, some members of the Her Campus at UVic team headed to the Crystal Garden downtown to see the 4th annual Modern Bridal Show. The event, which held exhibits on everything from   floral arrangements to wedding dresses to wines, gave a bride everything needed to plan a fabulous wedding!

The Wedding Ring

HC at UVic had the pleasure of talking to Laura who writes and coordinates all of the pieces in The Wedding Ring magazine. This local magazine is dedicated to providing Island brides with tips, tricks and trends for their weddings. The magazine is published twice a year, once in September and once in January.

Trending: Laura says that sleeves are making a come back! Whether long, short or lace, sleeves seem to be appearing on dresses this season. In addition, Laura says that the blue suit for men is certainly popping up, especially for Island weddings.

Party Mood

Looking to add some fun to you wedding? Party Mood has it all! With over 1000 items for rental ranging from rustic, beach, boho and more themes, your event is sure to have a unique atmosphere. This Island company also offers backdrops and can provide you with a timeline and manager onsite during the big day!

Trending: Anne, owner of the Party Mood company says that ivory and nature greens are popping up on wedding dresses! Brides are opting for gold tones in their gowns as well. In terms of decorations, simple greenery, such as garlands, is used to add a trendy touch.

Shades of White

This 26-year-old company held a Shut the Trunk Up event at the Bridal show! Brides were given keys that they could use to open up a trunk at the store in the hopes of winning a dress.

Trending: Shades of White is seeing a lot of brides coming into their shop looking an illusion neckline (as pictured above)!

Tout de Sweet

Located in the Fairfield area, the Tout de Sweet company offers a variety of fun services for wedding. Treats such as a personalized cotton candy cart or a s’mores bar are sure to make your celebration stand out!

de Vine

de Vine gave guests a taste of their local creations by holding a “kissing booth” at the show! Guests were invited to try some of the company’s flavoured vodka, gin, brandy and other spirits. For brides, de Vine offers delivery to the wedding as well. Your big day is guaranteed to be special especially with the company’s selection of naturally flavoured drinks such as their Barrel-Aged Apple Brandy which is 80% apple!

Emma Allen

Emma Allen is a Victoria based photographer that specializes in wedding stationary and brand identity. She wants to bring back the dying art of calligraphy and showcase the small town local craft style that can be lost in today’s weddings. She designed the Sarcococca leaf place cards at the Modern Bride Show, along with her own display of a handwritten cotton drapery. Emma has officially been in the business since 2015, but started her work in university. Her passion for weddings was inspired when she collaborated on a wedding and followed her dream of taking someone’s vision and bringing it to life.
