Kyle Bailey: A Shining Star

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

Kyle Bailey is our Campus Celebrity this week! Kyle is a Community Leader (CL) at UVic and has been since last year. This Metchosin, BC native is in his third year of Earth and Ocean Science and Biology. When Kyle isn’t working as a CL or volunteering he likes spending his free time hiking, snorkeling, doing riddles and drawing!

Kyle is the UVic coordinator of Shinerama and although he didn’t know anyone with cystic fibrosis (CF) before he got involved, he has since met people who have been affected by it. He has been really moved by what Shinerama has been able to do for people with CF and their families. Shinerama is a fundraising organization for CF that has been on our campus since 1969. Kyle says he has had a really great experience working with Shinerama at the UVic chapter. His personal goal is to raise awareness and make an impact here. He also wants to expand the club. Kyle has an obvious passion for improving the UVic community through his multiple roles. From the reaction of those around him, he has had an impressive effect already. Kyle has a lot on his plate this year with 300 level courses, a student staff position and a club to run but he still has set a fundraising goal of $4000.

In the future Kyle wishes to further study marine ecosystems. He would also like to continue his work in student affairs. Kyle’s goal for this school year is to leave the Shinerama club in even better condition than how he found it when he joined.

Keep an eye out for this celeb on campus! To see more of this Spock-like character and to find out how you can get involved in Shine Day (September 20) this year, head over to the Shinerama Facebook page.

Femi Tunde-Oladepo is in her final year at the University of Victoria where she is studying at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. After her undergrad, Femi hopes to read law and master French, Spanish and Italian. She is an active volunteer in her community and enjoys working with the Rotaract Club on campus. Having filled numerous notebooks as a child, Femi adores writing — especially short stories. She likes to dance (spontaneously), listen to all genres of music, laugh loudly and be the sassiest person in a room. In her spare time, Femi likes to window shop online, go for runs and reorganize spaces. One day, Femi hopes to perfect the art of soft pretzels.
