How to Look Cute and Comfy for Fall!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

It’s that time of the year again! Red and orange leaves are falling down all around us, textbooks are flying off the shelves, and pumpkin spice lattes are coming back again in full force. Fall is here, whether you like it or not! If you’re a more spring or summer person like I am, you may be a bit stuck at how to dress up cute for not-so-hot days or look fashionable while keeping dry when it gets wet. We’re here to give you some helpful tips on how to look cute and Pinterest-worthy for this fall season!

1. Sweaters are your best friends for chilly and cool days.

Honestly whoever invented sweaters was a saint. Sweaters are so useful and versatile, you can wear one with practically anything! Personally, I like to wear a comfy and wool sweater (maybe a huge wool one I borrow from my dad too much?) with pants or skirts to feel warm and cozy. When it’s still warmer early in the season, you could wear one with spring/summer shorts, skirts or dresses to have a transitional outfit from summer to fall. For an example, I personally love coordinating my gray crewneck sweater over my pink and white floral dress as a cute outfit when it’s warm outside! Best of all, sweaters are available in so many styles and sizes at pretty much all clothing stores near you, from H&M to The Bay! You can never go wrong when choosing one or more sweaters that keep you warm and stylish at the same time.

2. Scarves are one of the best accessories ever.

Maybe you’re feeling a bit chilly in the morning when heading to your 8:30 AM classes, or you want to add something more to your outfit for extra cuteness. Scarves are here to help you! Seriously, they’re so warm and pretty at the same time. They also come in different colours, patterns and styles. Your neck will also thank you for keeping it warm during cold days. My personal favorite scarves are a leopard-print cotton one from H&M, and a handmade thick woolen infinity scarf that I knitted in the summer. This accessory can be considered as a cute DIY project, but if you don’t know how to knit or don’t have the time (like most university students), almost every department store and boutique has scarves for sale, from Walmart to Michael Kors.

3. Boots can be practical and stylish.

You may be tempted to wear those cute chunky heels that just go perfectly with your black pants to school but what happens when it rains or your bus breaks down and you have to walk those extra miles to the next bus stop or school? You definitely don’t want to risk getting your suede heels soaked in the puddles or have blisters popping up on your feet after walking so much all day long.

A pair of leather boots can be cute, stylish and practical against mud, puddles and rain, while a pair of rain boots can protect your cute fluffy socks against the wet and windy weather. Bonus: rain boots come in many different cute patterns and colours so you don’t have to be stuck with a classic yellow pair. Even better, boots can be found and bought from almost anywhere near you, from Wal-Mart to Topshop.

To sum it up: boots, scarves and sweaters are key to looking cute and comfy while drinking your pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks for the third time this week.
