How to Get Your Summer Wardrobe Fall Ready

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

Fall is here! The temperature is cooling down, the leaves are changing, and no one wants to put away those favourite summer pieces that we’ve been obsessed with over the past few months. You might not have to just yet, because we’ve come up with some easy ways to transition those gorgeous pieces into the perfect fall outfit!

Strappy Heels

This trend could be dangerous, but if you’re dreading throwing your heels into the back of your closet then it might just work for you. If done right, a pair of socks worn under some strappy heels can make them winter appropriate, while still keeping the focus on the shoes. This outfit also shows you how you can bring any knee-length skirt into fall by pairing it with a warm sweater. Glam it up by adding some chunky jewelry and you’ll be ready to brace the cold in style.

Layers

When the sun is shining and the weather is warm, we get to wear our favourite tanks, tees and shirts, but when the temperature cools down we can wear them all at the same time! Alright, not exactly, but we love to layer when it comes time for fall, so grab your favourite summer shirt, throw it over a warm turtleneck, and add a cardigan. Pair it with your favourite pair of jeans and tennis shoes and you’re good to go!

Baseball Hats

You don’t have to get rid of your ball cap just because it’s fall! Pair it with a jean jacket and you’re good to go. This look works great with a comfy pair of leggings and your favorite runners. It’s stylish and warm, and you’ll be able to hit the gym after class while still looking cute. Keeping to dark colours will make it more fall appropriate, but don’t be afraid to go for something colourful or light!

Summer Dresses

Who doesn’t love a good summer dress? One of the easiest outfits to throw on in the summer is a dress and a cute pair of shoes. When the fall weather hits, don’t let those beautiful dresses get buried in the back of your closet. Instead, pair them with your best fall jacket, a warm scarf and some knee high boots so you can enjoy those dresses without freezing to death!

Cropped Pants

Cropped pants are a staple in the summer. Working in a business casual work environment all summer, they are a lifesaver. For some reason, that extra ankle makes all the difference! In the summer, put on a light blouse and cropped pants and you’re out the door. Here, we paired them with loafers, a 3/4-sleeve blouse and a long-line jacket to play up the proportions. Only thing that could make this more fall is a PSL.

Blanket Scarves

Blanket scarves make any outfit cozy, fashionable and fall-ready! Throw them over any tank or thin shirt and you’ll be able to brave the cold. The bonus is that you can wrap yourself up like a burrioto in the middle of a lecture hall without looking too weird. Also, if you aren’t ready to cover up that pedicure just yet, peep-toe boots are perfect!

Ripped Jeans

Ripped jeans may not keep you warm in the winter, but if you switch out your birks for some chunky boots and a warm plaid shirt you should be okay.

Another way to transform this look is to pair it with an oversized sweater and a military jacket to keep you cozy and still on trend. If you love the look of distressed jeans but don’t feel like buying (a.k.a. can’t afford) a new pair of jeans, here’s how you can make your own using an old pair that you already have!

Cardigans

A simple way to go from summer to fall is to add a cardigan to your outfit! Too cold for a crop top? Add a cardigan. Can’t give up your favourite summer tank top? Add a cardigan. Want to make your outfit more casual and comfortable? Add a cardigan. So easy! Here we paired our fave crop top with an oversized cardigan, some dark jeans and booties. It’s an outfit that makes you look like a fall fashion guru and makes you feel like you’re wrapped in a warm blanket all day. It’s a win-win.
