How to Get a Fresh Fall Look That’s Comfy and Chic

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

Fashion is a form of self-expression. I spent six years of my life at private school wearing uniforms, so when I came to UVic, I was super excited about the opportunity to get into fashion and find new creative ways to express myself.

Now that we are back at uni, it’s sometimes hard to find the right balance between comfortable and chic. If you’re like me, it’s key to wear something you will feel comfortable in while you study. But at the same time, it’s fun to try different styles and trends!

So, I thought that the best way to explore this topic was by going over some of the basics that I feel are essential to have in your wardrobe if you live in Victoria. Then, I’ll talk a bit about some of the current trends I have noticed this fall.

Here are some of the traditional basics I have:

  • Turtleneck (one heavier and one lighter)
  • Black skinny jeans
  • Boots (Chelsea or some variant that could be worn in the rain)
  • Moto jacket
  • Wide leg jeans (whether light wash, dark wash, or black)
  • Overshirt (flannel, heavier blouse, etc)
  • Crew neck sweater
  • Camo pants
  • Cropped sweater

Here are some new trends for Fall 2018:

  • Cords (whether it’s pants, jackets or skirts)
  • Flowy blouses
  • Flared pants
  • Sock boots
  • Wider leg pants in general
  • Blazers/overcoats
  • Puffer jackets

Below I have some of the looks that have inspired me from Aritzia this year. Although their clothes can be quite pricey, I find that investing in a nice staple piece like a winter coat or a comfy turtleneck can be quite worthwhile!

Below I’ve included some cheaper options with the same sort of looks!

Happy shopping, and  I hope that you find your own unique way to spice up your closet this September!
