HC at UVic’s Presents: Fashion Forward Professional Attire

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

Ahh, co-op and job hunting season are upon us! As if finding a job isn’t hard enough, you also have to find make sure your wardrobe fits the standards of the company; however, workplace attire doesn’t have to be totally boring! Here are some looks HC at UVic compiled that are fashion forward and work appropriate.

Casual:

Maybe you’re gunning for a job at a tech start-up or anywhere else that may have a casual dress code. Even though the name casual suggests “where whatever you want” you really should aim to look neat. This means wearing jeans that aren’t ripped or t-shirts with aggressive images or slogans! The fun thing about casual is that you can play with colour!

Business Casual:

Often offices will have a business causal dress code. Most may think of business casual as a button down, blazer and dress pants! While that may be the traditional look, it isn’t the only one! Throw on a blazer with a fun print to show off your personality or sport a unique skirt style!

Smart Casual:

Smart Casual is something you’d wear if your boss asked you meet with a client or another important partner of the business! You want to look at neat as possible but still be yourself! Try doing something fun with your hair or going for bigger pieces of jewelry.

Business:

This is probably the most formal you’ll be asked to dress at your summer job or internship! While it’s best to stick to dark/neutral colours here, you can still be stylish. Adding a blazer with a different cut or cute shoes is one way to stick out (in the best way!).

Now that you have some tips on how to be professional and cute, why not get a pic of you in your new go to business attire? You probably could use a new Linkedin profile picture anyway, right? Well, HC at UVic has got you covered! We are hosting a free professional headshot event this Friday in the SUB! Check out our Facebook for more details!

She likes to dance (spontaneously), listen to all genres of music, laugh loudly and be the sassiest person in a room. In her spare time, Femi likes to window shop online, go for runs and reorganize spaces. One day, Femi hopes to perfect the art of soft pretzels.
