2017 is proving to be a great year for fashion. 2017 kicked off with the annual the Golden Globes Awards ceremony on January 8, which celebrated not only the accolades and achievements of the film industry… but fashion, too. The stars, under media and public expectations, certainly dressed the part for this grand occasion. It could be said that aside from the actual awards and performances, the fashion and celebrity appearances are the most talked about topics. With this in mind, let’s check out some of the fashion highlights from the Awards Red Carpet.
Harper’s Bazaar top 5 best dressed celebrities are Nicole Kidman, Ruth Negga, Michelle Williams, Emma Stone, and Amy Adams.
Vogue named Ruth Negga, Milli Bobby Brown, Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, and Priyanka Chopra as their top 5 best dressed respectively.
Votes from the Vanity Fair continue to differ as they named Blake Lively, Ruth Negga, Emma Stone, Brie Larson, and Issa Rae as top 5 best dressed, respectively.
Cosmopolitan named Brie Larson as ‘Best Surprise Bombshell’, Issa Rae as ‘Best Debut’, ‘Most Seamless’ goes to Regina King, Rachel Bloom as ‘Best Piece of Flair’ and last but not least, Angela Bassett as ‘Prettiest in Pink’.
Finally, People.com chose Kristen Bell, Priyanka Chopra, Amy Adams, Gina Rodriguez, and Evan Rachel Wood as their top 5 best dressed.
Taking all these rankings into account, it is clear that Ruth Negga claimed first place as best dressed. But despite the reviews, some celebrities ran into tough competition, as their dresses only made it into the top 5 rankings once or twice.
1st place: Ruth Negga
To decide the ranking amongst the celebrities who appeared second most to Ruth in their appearance, I created a poll for a limited time to collect UofT student votes on who they think looked best on the Red Carpet. It was a best dressed battle between Priyanka Chopra, Michelle Williams, Amy Adams, Emma Stone, and Brie Larson.
And the result of the poll is as followed:
2nd place: Emma Stone
3rd place: Brie Larson
4th place: Michelle Williams
5th place: Amy Adams
6th place: Priyanka Chopra
