Nail Polishes Every Collegiette Should Own

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Toronto chapter.

Every season there are countless articles and videos from every fashion or beauty site, blog, magazine, and Youtuber on what colours you “need” to have on your nails this season. But there are some basic colours that everyone should have in their collection year round:

  • The perfect nude: these are the colours that are appropriate for work, job interviews and bridal showers. My picks: Rimmel Bare Naked, Chanel Rose Cache
  • A classic red: that matches your skin tone: finding the perfect red nail polish is as difficult as finding the perfect red lipstick but once you’ve found it, it can quickly become your go-to colour. My picks: Chanel Dragon, OPI Malaga Wine
  • A fun, bright colour: it’s important to have fun with your nail polish, whether you choose a glitter polish or a bright pastel. Find a shade that makes you happy whenever you look down at your nails. My picks: Butter London Muggins, Nails Inc. Baker Street or China Glaze For Audrey
  • Jewel tones: rich jewel tones are some of my favourite shades and are particularly great during the fall and winter months. My picks: Butter London British Racing Green, Butter London Big Smoke, OPI Lincoln Park After Dark
  • Black: a black polish helps round out a collection and looks great either worn alone or when used for nail art. My picks: Zoya Raven, Chanel Black Satin

Natalie has recently completed her second year at the University of Toronto with a double major in History and Ethics, Society, and Law. She is excited to bring Her Campus to U of T and seeing it expand its presence in Canada. She is also active in the school's Model United Nations circles and numerous organizations off campus and is best described as a political and pop culture junkie. Born and raised in Toronto, she is blindingly proud of everything the city has to offer including the best school in the country, no matter what Macleans says, and its sports teams, no matter how many times they may lose or miss the playoffs.
