‘Beyond the Lights’ premiered at TIFF on September 7th of this year to this year to positive reviews, with an 100% “Fresh” rating on RottenTomatoes. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, the star of last year’s Festival hit Belle, returns to play Noni: a beautiful singer who is on the rise to international stardom. Between her British accent, catchy tunes, and manager mother who will not recognize second best, her future seems set. That is, until Noni meets handsome, confident police officer Kaz (Nate Parker), who is pursuing a future in politics and has an uncanny way of seeing right through her picture perfect facade.
