Get Your Wardrobe Ready For Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Toronto chapter.

Exams are almost finished, which means you’ve lasted another year at the University of Toronto! What better way to rewind after these stressful weeks than to treat yourself to some good old fashioned shopping therapy! Now is the perfect time to stock up on some summer fashions. This year’s summer trends are all about comfort, pastels, and florals!

Clothing
Light, Flowy Chiffon

Chiffon dresses are the ideal thing to wear this summer as it’s going to be one of the hottest Toronto’s ever seen. Light and flowy, these dresses are super comfortable to wear. They are perfect for a nice day at the beach or a nice stroll in the park. Opt for some lace, ruffles or ribbons to provide a romantic feel.

Bright Floral Prints
Another trend is bright floral prints. These aren’t just your grandma’s old floral dresses. This trend involves intricate lace detailing, delicate cuts, and splashes of futuristic colours- neon oranges, electric blues, and wacky greens are sure to spice up your wardrobe. Pair simple shorts with these eye grabbing shirts to complete your look.

Pastels
Last but certainly not least are pastel themed clothes. If bright prints and chiffon dresses are not your cup of tea, maybe these muted coloured clothes are. Pastels were a big trend during the spring and will carry well into the summertime. From lilacs to mint greens and soft corals, this fashion trend is all about soft spoken looks. These colours can go with just about anything, from dark to light shades. Wear a simple white t-shirt along with some light blue pants or opt for a coral dress for a nice outing.

Shoes
Enough with clothing trends, let’s move onto shoe trends. One of the biggest trends is the ankle strap. Not only does it accentuate your legs, it also provides good support so your sandals or shoes don’t go flying off. These shoes easily cater to your personal tastes since you can choose from lace straps, metal spiked straps, and ribbon straps just to name a few. In addition, these shoes can be worn for causal outings, business meetings, and romantic dinners.

Hair

One of the easiest ways to spice up your look is to change your hairstyle. Everyone is sporting braids this season and its popularity has been boosted from celebrities to YouTube beauty gurus. Don’t forget books such as Divergent and movies such as The Hunger Games, where the main characters’ signature hairstyles are braids! Braiding has been the latest rage in the fashion world. Braiding your hair can be simple or complex because there are so many variations of the braid. You have the simple braid, the reverse braid, the French braid, the fishtail braid…the list goes on and on. Check out tutorials on Youtube and make sure to practice! The results will be fantastic and well worth your time!
