Who says studying can’t be cutesy ‘n elegant?! Just because you’re drowning in assignments and midterms doesn’t mean your desk should look like a little war zone ;) . In this article, we’re gonna explore 5 different and exciting ways to add some magic to your space and spice up those study sessions. From fairy lights to succulents, we are gonna make sure your desk is ready to #gurlboss. Let’s get started!
- Add some fairy lightss!! (instant mood booster)
-
Fairy lights are the one of the easiest ways to make any space look ten times cozier. I hung mine around the edge of my bookshelf, and now my desk is giving soft-lit café vibes. That warm glow makes late-night study sessions feel WAY less harsh on the eyes and resembles more like a calm evening in a tiny apartment from Istanbul.
If you’re on a budget, Ikea, Walmart, and Amazon all sell fairy lights for under $20. I’d suggest picking warm yellow tones for a soft, cozy atmosphere or add a pop of color if you want something more playful.
My advice: SKIP the LED strip lights that change color every second — they look fun, but trust me, you’ll get tired of them faster than you think. Instead, go for something gentle and calming. Your brain will thank you for not turning your desk into a theme park lol.
- Add some greenery (don’t forget to water ’em pls)
-
Plants are a game changer when it comes to add a grounding feeling to your living space. I used to think they just looked pretty, but even one small plant can reduce stress and help you focus. (And of course this #STEMinista couldn’t not add a research article about it.)
And if you do not have the best watering track record with plants (guilty as I apologize to my parched Peace Lillies), start with succulents or snake plants. Those bad boys barely need water, and they’re tough enough to survive the toughest exam seasons.
The succulents from Ikea are a great place to start. They are small and durable (shout out to this clumsy diva) and their pots are made with a material that allows you to color on them- pretty convenient for DIY projects :)
- ORGANIZE with style (#tidy gurl era)
-
Let’s be honest — clutter causes motivation to evaporate. But that doesn’t mean you gotta juggle everything in souls plastic boxes that don’t ✨serve✨. Organization can be done in a much cuter way. I prefer to use pastel storage baskets and a bamboo desk organizer to keep my stationary and book collection in order. When things look nice, I’m probably way more likely to keep them that way.
You can find aesthetic storage boxes at MUJI, Miniso, or even HomeSense if you’re feeling fancy. Also’ Dollarama and Ikea honestly have adorable organizers too.
Long story short, a neat desk doesn’t just look good — it clears your head. Every time I tidy up my space, I feel like I just reset my brain (much needed during mid term season tbh).
- make your studying area personal (details babyy)
-
Your study space should reflect your personality like an extension of it. I added a few tiny personal touches that put a smile on my face every time I look up — a cute photo of mi familia, a small framed quote (“You’ve got this”), and a few postcards I collected from places that I felt attached to after visiting. These small details have a greater impact than their size.
If you like crafting, consider using aesthetic pictures from Pinterest/Instagram or making your own mini vision board. You can even hang them with tiny clips and twine instead of buying expensive frames. It’s simple, affordable, and way more meaningful than a generic dorm poster.
Another tip: add a small item that symbolizes comfort and calmness to you. For me, it’s a candle (An electronic one so that I don’t cause a fire). I turn it on when I’m feeling overwhelmed. The ambiance helps me breathe and reset. Listen to yourself and find something that does the same for you.
- create a corner for routines (type a type shi)
-
This part isn’t really about decoration, but about setting the mood. The goal here is to make your desk a place where your brain automatically knows: “Okay, it’s time to focus.” I have a small white digital clock that I keep next to my study essentials — laptop stand, a cup of tea, lip balm, and my to-do list. When I set start the built in timer or the chronometer, it’s like flipping a mental switch.
What matters about this is consistency. When your space feels calm, clean, and uniquely yours, studying becomes less of a punishment and more of a quiet, cozy routine. It’s like telling your brain, “Hey, we’re in our safe little corner now. Let’s lock in!!!
To finalize, your study space doesn’t have to be perfect. Start by adding small changes. My study area evolved over time: a light here, a plant there, a new pen holder when I thought I needed one. And it continues to evolve- just like I am. Whats important is how you feel. When your environment sparks comfort and creativity, your productivity naturally follows.
so now you know how to study…
So, give that desk a little love, and make it yours. Studying might never be your favorite thing, but with the right setup, it can at least look (and feel) adorable.
