As the holidays roll around and my Sephora shopping cart gets fuller, I find myself debating on whether to try new products I’ve been eyeing or stay safe and stick to what I am already used to. Because of my sensitive skin, I hesitate to try any new product that might irritate my skin- a girl has enough stress breakouts already!

This is why I have been gravitating towards clean beauty- products that avoid any ingredients that may have a negative effect on human health. It is important to realize that the term “clean beauty” is quite ambiguous, and different brands interpret the line between “clean” and “unclean” ingredients differently. The bottom line stays the same, though: the clean beauty movement makes a conscious effort to take the effects of makeup and skincare on the body into account when creating products. If you are looking for new ways to spice up your routine, clean beauty is great because products are less likely to cause skin reactions, and do not contain harmful ingredients that have been shown to lead to health conditions in the long term.

Here are 5 of my clean beauty quarantine staples:

Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb Face Moisturizer

A significant amount of the product you apply to your skin gets absorbed into your body, which is why it is so important that base products, like moisturizer, are free of toxins. As we go forth into the upcoming cold months, a moisturizer that hydrates to the max is key, and this Belif moisturizer does just that without leaving your skin feeling suffocated.

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Foundation

This product is perfect for mornings when you need more than coffee to keep you looking awake for that early morning zoom call. A 2-in-1 sunscreen and foundation, the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint gives just enough coverage to blur out redness and discoloration without feeling heavy on the skin.

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40

Made untinted to blend into any skin tone, the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen gives hardcore sun protection with a light-as-a-feather finish. Even indoors, sunscreen is essential, and can significantly lower your risk of skin cancers. Bonus benefit: It keeps your skin looking young and healthy!

Well People Expressionist Pro Mascara

Though it can seem like clean beauty is only necessary for skin products, it is equally important for eye products! Mascara is one of the main causes for dry, irritated eyes. Using natural mascaras can help prevent your tear ducts from getting clogged. Well People’s Expressionist Pro Mascara gives volume and length without clumping or toxic ingredients.
