3 Style Trends We Predict for Spring/Summer 2015

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Toronto chapter.

Happy February, Collegiettes – this is the month for change! It is never too early to think of ways to refresh ourselves through our resolutions, goals and styles. Closet cleaning is probably one of the most tedious things, if you are anything like me. I want to hold on to literally everything – who knows when that 2000 middle-school themed party will come up? You’ll be sorry when you have nothing to wear, and I’ve got my sassy Abercrombie logo tees on fleek. To combat the complicated matter, I like to use this handy dandy flowchart below to help me realize that any accidently-shrunk-in-the-dryer blouse is past its “use by” date.

Now that you’ve pruned out all the neon leggings and shirts from grade seven, it’s time for some fresh pieces for  our spring/summer 2015 stylebook! Closet cleanouts are such a good excuse to go shopping. Here are the three big trends I predict are coming your way for the warmer seasons.

1.      Boho -Fringe Chic

Who else doesn’t love the good old bohemian look for spring? With a healthy mix of floral, fringe and fun accessories this trend expected to stay. Venture into the Wild West and 1970s with this combo seen on the runways for the spring and summer, perfect for the free spirited collegiate. Bonus style points if spotted with the fringed bucket bag, aka the bag style that everyone is talking about this season.

2.      Simple and Clean

This is a chic take on spring and summer fashion that is a step up from the classic floral prints. The clean and simple style calls for high contrast and pairings between dark and light colours, topped off with a cute tote or satchel. Clean and mean this look can definitely be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

3.      All about Gingham

The most appropriate pattern for spring and summer in my opinion, is gingham. Gingham is a classic that just screams out summer picnics with home-made jam. The best thing about the gingham pattern is the fact that it looks cheery and summerlicious in every shade. Maybe it’s the slight retro flair to this pattern, but it definitely inspires me to accessorize with wicker sandals and go soak up some sun.
