Reset & Reflect: 6 Journal Prompts to Make February Your Best Month Yet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Penn chapter.

Can you believe that the first month of 2024 is already over? Whether you’ve been crushing 75 hard or already forgetting the resolutions that you set on January 1st, these journal prompts will help you reset and reflect to make February your best month yet!

Journaling is a great way to look back and re-evaluate your goals. In such a fast-paced world, it’s so important to take time to slow down and intentionally reflect. Be kind to yourself and remember that every day is a fresh start!

1. Name an accomplishment from January that you are proud of.

This can be as simple as drinking more water. Choose one thing that you accomplished in January and give yourself a pat on the back – you did that!

2. When did you feel the most joyous and peaceful in January?

Take the time to really think about this question: reflect on your daily routine, fun activities, and nights in. Look for common threads or patterns of when and where you felt truly joyous and peaceful. Maybe it was on the days when you woke up early and took a moment for yourself and your morning coffee, or perhaps it was the late-night phone calls with your best friend! Make a commitment to yourself that whatever behaviors brought you peace and joy, you’ll make a conscious effort to continue them this month and beyond.

3. Who did you surround yourself with in January and how did they make you feel?

I’ve truly found that the people you surround yourself with are the people you become. So ask yourself: Do the people around you inspire you? Do they push you to be better? Do they support you and help you in your time of need? Do they make you laugh? Make a list of the people that you spent the most time with in January and describe how they made you feel over the month. Be honest with yourself and enter February with a clearer picture of who your support system really is and how you can prioritize them. Don’t be afraid to re-evaluate certain friendships and set boundaries when you need to.

4. What is one goal you were consistent with throughout January?

Consistency is so important so think about a goal that you really stuck with this month. It’s important to reward yourself for cultivating strong habits. Also consider how you were able to stay consistent. What actions did you take to prioritize that habit each day? Identifying this will lead you right into your next question.

5. How can I re-prioritize my goals in February?

While reflection is important, it won’t be effective without a plan. Think about one or two goals you may not have stuck with in January and try to turn them into SMART goals! SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-specific. Consider how you can change your goals from January to fit these parameters. Perhaps you want to fill out a daily habit tracker to keep yourself accountable or you want to block out time in your schedule each week to complete a specific task? Come up with fun ways for you to stay on top of your goals all throughout February.

6. What is one thing I’m hopeful for in February?

Dreams are at the heart of our goals! Take a second to come up with a dream or a hope for February.

Feel free to revisit these questions each month for a reset or check out other HC articles for more journal prompts! You can find one of our recent February favorites here.
