Gum Drawer Notes: Folk You!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Penn chapter.

I’ll basically go to any show, unless it’s techno. But let’s be real, that shit ain’t music. I attended two shows this past weekend. I saw The Airborne Toxic Event in Northern Liberties with lead singer Mikel Jollett, along with classically trained violinist Anna Bulbrook (Boston represent!) who gives this indie rock group a unique sound. This was the third time I saw them this summer, and as always they exceeded my expectations.

I also saw Shovels & Rope at Union Transfer. This folk duo from Charleston, South Carolina consists of husband and wife Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst. They played some great music and showed their strong love for performing through their on-stage chemistry and passionate voices.

Nothing beats live music, kids. If you want to check out The Airborne Toxic Event and Shovels & Rope, peep my Spotify playlist HC: TATE/S&R!
