Fling from the Floor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Penn chapter.

It’s pretty amazing what people will go through for Spring Fling: unbelievably long periods of partying, rallying, eating, dancing, and moon bouncing. This year floor ticket sales caused the most drama and heartbreak (but cancelled block parties come in as a close second).

Whereas most students started rallying last Monday, fling preparation began a month ago for those of use who scored floor tickets (or made serious bank by selling one of the coveted). With a line that already exhausted the amount of tickets for sale at 3:30 a.m., fling anticipators camped out on College Green. They passed the time by consuming large amounts of Wawa coffee and singing “Call Me Maybe.” A memorable seven hours later and with tickets in hand, thoughts of Fling were abandoned for more coffee, showers, and extra-long naps.

Finally, Fling Friday night rolled around, and the cast of characters that made that long night on College Green so memorable took to Franklin Field for amazing performances by Passion Pit and Tiësto. The outfits students donned for the night were not to be missed, from never-stopped-partying Fling shirts to wolf masks and neon tutus (guilty). The lines to enter Franklin Field were unreal, with people lining up as early as 5:45 (doors opened at seven) to procure the best seats or floor spots.

The energy on the floor was electric. Even before the music started, attendees were screaming and jumping, cheering for what was to come. The second Passion Pit came on stage, the sound was deafening. The crowd on the floor moved of its own volition, pushing forward towards the stage as one large entity. That was the vibe for the entire concert: dancing like it was your last time, jumping around, singing along at the top of your lungs, and literally screaming in excitement and approval every time “Philadelphia” flashed across Tiësto’s light show.

Some people lost hats, keys, money, sleep, Penn Cards, and more, but the overall consensus was that Fling from the floor was definitely worth it. Those students on the floor embraced their second wind of Fling energy and had fun without any regrets. After all, You Only Fling Four Times (YOFFT)!
