‘Tis the season of formals hosted by charities, clubs, faculties and Greek organizations. Our news feed is filled with pictures of beautifully dressed individuals and we receive daily notifications of upcoming galas we must attend – if we haven’t yet been invited by our campus cutie!
Amongst those formals is the first annual Red Dress Gala hosted by Alpha Phi women’s fraternity March 14, 2015. It was just last year the Iota Upsilon chapter of Alpha Phi was colonized on our campus and they aren’t wasting anytime raising funds for their favourite cause: Women’s Heart Health.
What is absolutely wonderful about this cause is that not only does it affect us, women, but our own University of Ottawa Heart Institute recently inaugurated their Women’s Heart Health Centre. The event will directly help fund this centre and others in North America through the Alpha Phi foundation.
Here are a few statistics explaining why this cause is so dear to their hearts and why you should care too;
- Each year, 1 in 3 women die of a broken heart… literally.
- It is the number one killer of women 20 years and older.
- Heart Diseases kill about one woman per minute.
You could be the next person to make a difference; one heart beat at a time.
The event will consist of a dinner and a night filled with dancing to Jetson from NewScene Entertainment. Of course, attendees will be able to commemorate the night with gorgeous pictures taken all evening by Siamak Abrishami (@Siamak_Photography).
Throughout the evening, there will be a cash bar, a silent auction as well as raffle items.
Some of the items you might be lucky to leave with are Nike Fuel Band bracelets, Spa Junkie and Arbonne gift baskets, Sophia Esthetics, Funhaven and Hooley’s gift cards, chocolates from Bulk Barn and even hockey tickets. From various paintings, spa items, to lifestyle goods, Alpha Phi received amazing prizes from incredible sponsors to appeal to everyone’s interests.
