While we’re knee-deep in cuffing season, it’s important not to forget about the other important people in our lives—our friends! Even though there’s something to be said about the importance of nights in (pyjamas and reality tv nights, hello!), here’s a list of some fun activities to consider for your next “friend date.”

See a movie at Ottawa’s oldest theatre

1074 Bank St, Ottawa

Level up your movie night and check out the Mayfair theatre, which has been in operation since 1932 and continues to play movies both old and new. You and your friends can enjoy popcorn and candy inside the historic theatre for $12.50 a person—they even offer couches as seating!

try a unique plant-based dining experience at Alice

40 adeline street

No beyond burgers here! Alice is a “vegetable and fermentation focused tasting menu” restaurant that offers diners several small plates throughout the course of their meal. Previous menu items include “Koji carrots and smoked yellow pea tempeh tacos with fermented turnip tops” and “Liquorice, balsam and cultured almond milk pate de fruit.” I mean, sounds pretty fancy to me. They were even featured on Canada’s 100 best restaurants of 2020!

Make something beautiful at the mud oven

1065 bank street

You’ll be able to paint your own ceramic items at the Mud Oven, with instructions and assistance from staff on how to decorate your dream piece. Mugs, planters, kitchen items, vases and all other sorts of decor are available to be given your own personal touch.

learn to paint some furniture at malenka originals

1098 somerset street

Malenka introduces you to new painting techniques at their beginner’s furniture painting workshops. Classes cover how to clean and prep your piece, how to paint it, and how to seal it to ensure your masterpiece stays pristine.

Take a drop in ballet class

450 Churchill avenue

Daphné Paquette Adult Ballet Classes offers drop-in beginner classes for you and your bestie to embrace your inner ballerina and learn the basics. Or, if you have previous experience in dance, they offer more advanced classes to freshen up your skills!

Take a stroll through central park

19 clemow avenue

Who says you need to spend money to have a nice day out? This park in the Glebe area is perfect for a morning run, afternoon picnic, or nighttime walk. If you’re lucky, you might even see some adorable dogs while you’re there!

There’s so much to explore in the city, and so many fun spots to hit up with your pals! Spending time together doing something different can help strengthen your bond with your friends or loved ones. Plus, you could even pick up a new skill!
