Trend Report: Fall Boots on a Student Budget!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

Watch out U Ottawa, boots are back with a vengeance! Finding that perfect, make-your-knees-weak pair of boots is one of the greatest things about the fall season. This season, everything from riding boots to lace-ups, ankle booties to equestrian-style boots, are sure to instantly kick start your fall wardrobe and make a perfect leeway to the harsh Ottawa winter.

Listed below are 6 fabulous styles you’ll be eager to strut on the U Ottawa campus. I scoured all over Ottawa for this season’s best deals and these are my top picks. So scroll down and feast your eyes on these fabulous finds that can be found at our very own Rideau Centre!

1. The Biker
The Biker Boot is the most edgy of the styles and can be thrown on with almost every outfit. So if you are looking to amp-up your style, this is the boot for you! Fall’s buckle-accented boots are the way to go for a tough-girl look. Whether you pair it with a skinny jean, legging, skirt or dress, this boot will never disappoint. This style needs no specific occasion to be worn; it is versatility at its best!

2. The Lace-up
Get a leg (and heel!) up on this season’s footwear fashion by purchasing a pair of hot hiking-inspired lace-up boots. It is an absolute must-have for this fall because you can wear these with one of your light summer dresses to get more mileage out of your summer wardrobe or you can pair them with your favorite skinny jeans or leggings when the temperature drops, which we all know will… After all, we do live in Ottawa! Plus, the heel makes this style go from day to night without even trying!

3. The Ankle Bootie
The ankle bootie: not too tall, not too flashy, these are the kind of wear-with-everything shoes that even the pickiest shopper won’t be able to resist. This easy-going boot will make your legs look nice and long and cover your foot on those crispy cold autumn days (and nights for that matter!). Often ankle booties have shorter heels which make for great ankle support, especially for our hectic student lifestyle. So, slip on this super cute style when setting out on a day of running around campus with some skinny jeans and a comfortable sweater and scarf!

4. The Equestrian
The equestrian boot is the preppier of the styles. This sexy English-style riding boot is tall and pairs well with a great dark skinny jean or legging. This boot gives you a feminine touch to an otherwise classic cowgirl look. It is a luxurious style and is built for comfort and facilitates the glamorizing of any outfit. It is appropriate for work and school!

5. The Wedge
The wedge boot is a great style that is being transferred over from summer to fall. This season, the style is available in every single textile and color imaginable; everything from a subtle, almost hidden low wedge, to a sky-high wedge, this style has something for every kind of girl. For having a heel, the wedge is considerably comfortable and stable. If you have a fear of heels and consequently a fear of heights you must give these a chance, even the most uncoordinated girl can rock these. These are great paired with a dress and tights or a simple skinny jean and cute top to go out!

6. The Rain Boot
Rain boots have been revamped! Formerly known for their practicality, rain boots have suddenly become very chic. These days rain boots are meant to be bright and bold and a whole lot of fun. The rain boot is quite versatile, you can wear these with practically anything, but ladies, please, please, please do not pair these boots with a baggy pant to avoid the overly outdoorsy fisherman look!

From left to right: Spring-BEGLEY (Black Patent) Clearance for 29.98; Aldo-CAVEZ (Midnight Black) Clearance 19.98; Payless-RUGGES OUTBACK WOMEN’S SPLACH RAIN BOOT (Navy) 29.99

You can find all these great affordable styles only a few metres away from our beloved U Ottawa at the Rideau Centre. Instead of wasting away your breaks at the cafeteria, take a quick stride over to Rideau to get in on these trendy styles. Now, there is no excuse to neglect your style after the first few weeks of classes. The true beauty of a fall boot is that it can completely overhaul your look while also keeping you warm in anticipation of the cold Canadian weather. So fall head over heels (See what I did there?) for these fabulous styles without having to strain your wallet.

I am a fourth year student at the University of Ottawa in Communications studies. Throughout my studies I have obtained experience in the field in the Federal Government and have just recently been selected as an intern for a great Communications and PR firm. Aside from my work and studies I spend a whoooole lot of time and money on my wardrobe. Over the years it has become crystal clear that I have an addiction, a fashion addiction. Which leads me to affirm that I am a self proclaimed shopaholic. Shoes and purses, accessories, tops and bottoms, any component that lies within an ensemble, I love it all. My bank account has fallen prisoner and therefore victim of my serious addiction and I have decided to share the plentiful knowledge I have gathered no thanks to my "problem". The first step is acceptance, check! I hope my tips and tricks will serve the readers as they have me, although my diminishing savings account would say otherwise. Well that is me in a nutshell.
