As another year comes to a close, we bring you a roundup of the best beauty products of 2013! In no particular order, let’s begin:

  1. Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation

This product surpassed everyone’s expectations. Known for her vividly exuberant body artwork, Kat Von D has now cemented herself as quite the makeup connoisseur. This foundation has beautiful packaging and contains 1 fl.oz, typical for a foundation. It glides onto the skin and blends so well. It is a full coverage foundation, and while it does feel slightly heavy on the skin, it erases any and all imperfections. It is said to provide enough coverage to cover up a tattoo. With 19 different shades, you’re sure to find a perfect match!

  1. Urban Decay Naked 3 Eyeshadow Palette

Beautiful, exquisite, romantic, dreamy, youthful…the list of adjectives can go on and on to describe this luxurious palette. Beauties, Urban Decay has nailed it…again. With 12 crazy pigmented, rose-toned eyeshadows, this palette is perfect for everyday wear or date nights. It also contains a dual-ended brush which makes travelling easier. When used in conjunction with the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer, these eyeshadows stay vivid all day.

  1. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Spot Concealer and Treatment

To add to the roundup, this concealer is amazing! No, that’s not even the right word to describe this product. The coverage is unbeatable and the applicator glides on the skin. It is easy to blend with fingers, and when used with a setting powder, it stays put! It’s also a drugstore product, so it’s more affordable and is always on sale at either Walmart or Shoppers!

  1. Maybelline Colour Sensational Vivids Lipsticks

Upon first glance, it seems like these lipsticks may only be appropriate for the warmer months during spring and summer. Not the case at all. These beauties contain a wide range of bright lipsticks that have a creamy finish and lasting wear. They are easy to match with different makeup looks and the bright colours add more glow to the face during the winter months.

  1. Rimmel “Apocalips” Lip Lacquers

Rimmel has managed to secure a position among the list of top drugstore brands in Canada. The products they have produced throughout the past year have all been winners. However, the lip lacquers have been among the personal favourites of many. They are not lipsticks; nor are the lip glosses or balms. They appear to be a mixture of both. When dry, these lip products have a lipstick finish but retain the glossiness and longevity of lip gloss. With a diverse range of colours, these babies can go from bright fuchsia to subdued nude so you have plenty to choose from!

  1. Garnier Radiance Renewer Cleansing Gelée

This cleanser is good for all skin types and adds a radiant glow to the face upon consistent usage. While it poses as a cleanser, it can also be used as an effective makeup remover. It is not possible to say enough good things about this product except that it is one of the best skincare products of the year.

  1. NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder

Pores be gone with this pressed powder. In a single swipe, this powder dramatically transforms your face. While it keeps your makeup staying matte for hours, it instantly blurs the look of your pores, giving you a beautiful airbrushed effect! Definitely worth the splurge.

  1. MAC Rihanna Holiday Collection

It’s all beautiful. Enough said.

  1. Bath and Body Works Winter Candy Apple Scents

It smells like heaven! The shower gel and hand cream are the best!

  1. Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb fragrance

A truly “grown up” scent, this perfume is lovely and light. It is appropriate as both a day and night fragrance and the packaging is beautiful!

That rounds up the best of beauty 2013. If you happen to try any of these products, either Instagram a picture to us or tweet us your reaction @HCuOttawa!
