Being in university for 4+ years can really hurt a student’s wallet. Whether it’s paying off debt, buying groceries or your party fund, there comes a time when we need earn some extra cash. Here are some ideas for part time jobs to have while working on getting that diploma!
Server
You may have to sit through four hours of smart serve but the tips will be worth it. Being a server/bartender/hostess is a great way to earn an income during the school year because your hours will most likely be when your school isn’t! Working nights and weekends frees up your weekdays to focus on your readings, lectures, or your napping. There are plenty of restaurants and bars in the Byward market so work won’t be too far from school. It’s also a great way to meet new people in the city and try awesome food!
Retail
Working retail isn’t a high-stress job whether it’s at your favorite clothing store or selling sock! It seems as if a new store is opening in the Rideau Center everyday so plenty of places are always hiring! You get to put outfits together, try clothes on, voice your opinion, and this all comes with a discount! Now most of your paycheck may go to buying more clothes but hey at least you’ll look cute!
Office
It’s boring and you have to dress like your mom, but its probably good experience. Sitting in an office may make you feel 30 but it’s good to have professional experience and who knows it could lead to something! If your lucky it pays well and then you can afford to go out with your fellow young coworkers for drinks afterwards!
On Campus
For those who really don’t like to stray far from campus this is the job for you! You can go straight from class to work and don’t have to worry about getting on a bus! The campus makes it easy for students to find jobs on campus through SASS! Whether it’s working at the sports complex, being a campus guide, or a room advisor there are options on campus for everyone!
