The library is full, there seems to never be enough coffee anywhere and there are no students outside. It must be that dreadful time of year again, exams. We know the tips and tricks on how to memorize a textbook in a night and how to pull up nighters. What happens the day of the exam? Besides the obvious of course. Read on to find out what you’re doing wrong!

1. Wake Up

If you only set one alarm during exams, that is your first mistake. Never, ever only set one alarm during exam period! You will sleep through it! You need to set at least three alarms, that way you’ll wake up and on time. They say it’s important to get at least 8 hours of sleep but let’s be honest, university students don’t believe in sleep. Especially during the exam period! That being said, if you do plan on pulling an all-nighter, do not fall asleep! Make sure you have enough supplies to keep you going for the whole night. If you do plan on catching some z’s be sure to get at least 5 hours of sleep. Just enough for you to function! While trying to get out of bed, play some music to get you going. You’ll be wide awake in no time!

2. Breakfast

Whether you eat breakfast on a regular basis or not, you shouldn’t skip breakfast during exams! Your brain needs something to feed on while you’re sitting the exam panicking. And no, coffee does not count as breakfast. If you wake up early enough, you will have time to prepare a full-course meal that’ll give you the energy that you need. It is the most important meal of the day!

3. Relax

Give yourself enough time before your exam to relax. Whether relaxing to you is watching t.v, going for a jog or just sitting down and enjoying a coffee; give yourself time to do so! Having time to relax before an exam will keep you calm. Going to an exam stressed will not give you the mark you want. You are more likely to be distracted throughout the exam with too much on your mind with the possibility of flunking. Going into your exam relaxed will give you a better chance of doing good!

4. Supplies

The worst feeling in the world is going to an exam not prepared. You don’t want to be that student. Be sure to pack your bag the night before with everything that you need inside:

  • Pen(s) have at least three
  • Pencil (just in case)
  • High-lighters
  • Scrap lined-paper

5. Celebrate

Having fun is extremely important! It’s important to give yourself a break in between exams and let loose. Once your exams are finish, go out with friends at least once. You’ll be glad you did! Besides, you’ve been studying so hard, you deserve a break!

If you remember these five steps during the exam season, exams won’t seem so dreadful. Nobody likes exams, but don’t make it harder on yourself. When you’ve aced your exams and you haven’t lost your sanity you’ll be thanking us. Good luck!
