Didn’t Get Bit by the Travel Bug this Thanksgiving: Fun Ottawa Activities

So all your friends are going home for Thanksgiving and you are stuck in the capital for the long weekend with no plans. Well, fret no more, although this may not seem like a hip-hop happening place, there are several activities that you can do in Ottawa once you round up the other non-travellers this weekend!

 

   

Go on a hike in Gatineau Park

Gatineau Park is known for its stunning nature, unique plants, wildlife, heritage sites and gorgeous lookout points. As the leaves begin to change, it is the perfect place to spend a day out on the long weekend. There are also different educational programs offered for free that can be taken advantage of to gain the whole Gatineau Park experience!

Pumpkin and Apple Picking

The Ottawa area is perfect for apple and pumpkin picking, as there are several different sites that offer this. It is the perfect activity for Thanksgiving weekend. You can decorate pumpkins for upcoming Halloween and do some festive baking with your freshly picked goods!

Visit The Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum

As fall is the time of year for harvesting food, why not spend the harvest at the Museum? They have many activities to partake in over Thanksgiving weekend:

  • Apple cider making and tasting
  • Proudly Canadian: Food Challenge
  • Crafts
  • Cream Separation
  • Grain Elevator Demonstration
  • Tally-Ho Wagon Rides
  • Alpacas, Donkeys and other animals

Have your own Thanksgiving dinner

Use your social media skills and call up all your friends that have stayed on campus for the weekend! Pintrest and other helpful sites are full of DIY holiday ideas including Thanksgiving treats. A potluck dinner is the perfect time to use those new pots and pans your parents bought you for the start of this school year!

Watson’s Mill Harvest Fest

This festival has a lot of fun fall activities including:

  • Pumpkin decorating
  • Pie-eating contest
  • Milling demonstration
  • Wagon Rides

 

   

A night out on the town!

Barrymore’s Music Hall: 80’s and 90’s long weekend Sunday will be the place to be to listen to your favourite throwbacks!

Mansion Nightclub- Rewind Thanksgiving Reunion: This event is to celebrate our friends who are back in the capital city for the weekend and those who stayed to party with them! For more information check out thier Facebook page.

Zaphods Thanksgiving Party: On Saturday October 12th you can go out and support local indie rock and alternative bands at Zaphods.
