This fall uOttawa launched a new campaign with the tag line “Defy the Conventional”
Meant to be inspirational the quickly popular hash tag was over taken by students and used in more than one way…
Some decided to poke fun at the school.
Others have used it to raise awareness around issues on campus
Some simply use it as a way to describe everyday gee-gee life
As the VP of external affairs at the university mentioned to the Ottawa Citizen, defy the conventional “[isn’t] so much a tag line, [and] it’s not a marketing campaign, it’s about the substance behind it… what is really the essence… of the University of Ottawa?” The school is looking to rebrand itself, after a particularly rocky time in the media. Even the president, Allan Rock, is pushing the new branding as he was quoted saying “Defying the Conventional is about brilliance, creativity and collaboration, about game-changing ideas and putting those ideas into action.”
So what do you think collegiettes? Is this campaign something that will bring uOttawa into the spotlight or become the punch line of a joke used by students? Let us know in the comments!
