Budget $100: Top 5 Transitional Ikea Items to Buy

When it comes to furnishing a room on a budget, the Swedish chain, Ikea, is often times your best bet. But catering to everyone from moms to toddlers and offering products from the kitchen to the garden, it’s hard to stick to a budget when you’re running from showroom to showroom, being ‘inspired’ to buy every cute item in sight.

So what are some good buys? Which budget pieces will last me through the next four years and possibly beyond? Which items can transition with me as my style evolves?

As your self-proclaimed Ikea fanatic, I present to you my top 5 transitional Ikea items to buy that comes up to a grand total of $88.95 before tax.

1) MULIG Clothes Rack in White- $12.99

If you need more closet space than what’s available or you just want to show off some statement pieces from your wardrobe, this piece is for you! Whatever your needs may be, the MULIG rack un-hacked is understated, elegant, and versatile in its curved, no-nonsense design. With a little creativity and spray paint however, this affordable functional item can be transformed into the centrepiece of your room. 

2) GODMORGON Box with Lid Set- $12.99

Hair ties, rings, Q-tips, brushes and polishes… Every collegiette needs some organization eye candy. The GODMORGON set on its own is minimalistic and cool. This clear set of boxes can be DIYed into numerous cute looks with some Washi tape (see why Washi tape is amazing in the link below) or some glitter and glue.

Glass and steel is a classy combination. The VITTSJÖ table can be used to do homework or as a bar cart. The table has a black side and a brown side, leaving the choice up to you as to how you’d like it to compliment your room. If neither black nor brown are of interest, spray paint or gold leafing is always a good option.

The LACK side table is a favourite among budget DIYers. Just a random google search for “LACK table DIY” will find you hundreds of DIY ideas to either jazz up the simple coffee table or transform its function completely. Plus, cheaper than the price of a MAC lipstick, your wallet won’t hurt that much if you accidently screwed up your project.

5) MULIG Laundry Bag with Stand- $14.99
