7 Fashionista Inspired Graphic Shirts

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

Now I know everyone loves a good graphic tee. They can be hilarious, sarcastic, and painfully accurate at the same time. I must admit, however, I’ve only recently started liking graphic shirts. I used to abstain because I didn’t want to draw attention my chest. Also, I was never a fan of those “Obey” sweatshirts. Don’t tell me what to do.

But lately there’s been a huge trend in graphic tees and I’m kind of digging it. Plus, it only makes sense for the fashion world to have its own collection! Check out these awesome fashionista inspired graphic shirts!

1. Holy Chic

I would like to call this shirt the classic fashion pun shirt. I feel like it’s on par with other funny curses like “oh my lanta” and “shut the front door.” My only problem is that I can’t decide if “Holy Chic” or “Chic Happens” is better. What do you think? I’ve seen these tees floating around stores like Old Navy, TopShop, and Forever21. If you’re ever in a punny mood, this tee is perfect.

2. Girls Just Wanna Have Funds

Let’s be real: girls (fashionistas, in particular) just wanna have funds. I find this tee especially accurate because it’s expensive to be stylish. There are some people who just don’t understand how much it costs to look this good. Plus, if this tee wasn’t awesome enough, it is also a bit of pun on the Cyndi Lauper classic. You know the one ;)

3. The Best of the Best En Francais

I very rarely use the phrase “crème de la crème,” or “the best of the best” but that doesn’t stop me from wanting it on a shirt. The design is simple and chic and if you’re feeling particularly crafty, you can do it yourself and make this fabulous sweatshirt. Style it with a pair of cute jeans and a statement necklace and you’re good to go.

4. Shopping is my Cardio

Shopping is totally a form of exercise. Bags are heavy. Especially if there is a new pair of shoes in them. Or three. The point is, shopping is cardio. Changing in and out of your clothes, strutting around the stores in new items, and carrying your shopping bags from one side of the mall to another all count as exercise. This takes stamina, strength, and above all, motivation. So when I say I’m going to the mall, I’m going to work out.

5. Because…Mean Girls

If you don’t have this shirt or have no desire to want this shirt, I can’t talk to you. This Mean Girls inspired shirt is one my favourite graphic tees ever. Not only am I referencing one of the most quoted movies of my generation, but I actually feel like a sassy badass. I’m also a fan of the “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink” tee but I’m not a fan of the colour pink. I did make an exception on the movie’s 10 year anniversary last year, which also happened to be a Wednesday. Mind. Blown.

6. Clothes over Bros

If I could have this written on every piece of clothing I have ever owned, I would have no regrets. Not even one letter. This tee not only refers to the classic clothing line by Brooke Davis in One Tree Hill, but it’s also the most accurate thing in my life. If there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that clothes will always trump boys. ALWAYS.

7. More Issues than Vogue

And last but not least, the “More Issues than Vogue” shirt. I remember seeing someone wearing a shirt like this whilst scrolling through my Tumblr dashboard and literally laughing out loud. It was simply perfect. I found this on a handbag at Winners (#StyleSteal) but I am still pining away for this graphic tee. What can I say? I got more issues than Vogue!

So it looks like I’ve been converted, to say the least. Graphic tees now have a special place in my heart and I would encourage everyone to find a few that encompass your personality and style as accurately as these ones do. If you can’t find one, make one. I would love nothing more than to add to this great collection of clever fashionista inspired graphic tees.
