The 4th Annual Legacy Conference: Inspiring, Educating, and Connecting Entrepreneurs

Wondering what career path you should take after you graduate? Starting your own business could be a great option for you! The Legacy Conference will provide you with the confidence and knowledge you need to start your own company.

Legacy is Ottawa’s premier student entrepreneurship conference and provides attendees with a chance to expand their network, make connections and be inspired to explore their business ventures. The event will feature successful Canadian business people with expertise spanning from financing a start-up to marketing and branding. This year’s event is taking place on Saturday, March 22nd at City Hall.

The Legacy Conference is not only aimed at management students. There is a large range of speakers, who are bound to spark everyone’s interest! So, whether you are in Telfer, Arts or Social Sciences, you are guaranteed to benefit from attending the event.

The keynote speakers include George Roter, the CEO and Co-Founder of Engineers without Borders Canada, who dropped out of university and ran up $30,000 in credit card debt to launch the organization; and Simon Whitfield, a four time Olympic medalist turned entrepreneur!

The day will be organized into four different panel topics including social, technological, environmental and women’s entrepreneurship, you can choose the areas you are most interested in learning about. There will also be breakout sessions led by professionals such as Doug Tetzner, the Head of Talent Acquisition from Shopify, Canada’s leading e-commerce website solution.

With over 200 attendees and more than 20 speakers, the Legacy Conference offers a large range of businesses the opportunity to provide their insight and advice to the audience. The list includes Vinod Rajasekaran, Executive Director and Co-Founder of HUB Ottawa; Nick Quain, Co-Founder and CEO of CellWand; and Nazim Ahmed, the Co-Founder of CanvasPop;

The Women’s Entrepreneurship Panel features inspirational business women, who will provide some insight on how they were able to overcome barriers and launch successful businesses.

Janice McDonald: an award-winnig serial entrepreneur, who co-founded CDWarehouse and fashion & accessories brand iStyleOriginals. WXN recognized Janice as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women in 2013 and was awarded a World of Difference 100 Award in Washington from The International Alliance for Women and a National Leadership Award in 2011 from Canadian Women in Communications.

Victoria Lennox: the co-founder of Startup Canada, Canada’s first-ever, entrepreneur-led, national movement. Victoria is the catalyst of a national grassroots network of local Startup Communities; PIVOTmagazine.ca, 1000startups.ca, & the Canadian Mentorship Challenge among other high-impact, national programs to advance Canadian entrepreneurship.

Hana Abaza: a combination of hippie chic, tech geek and entrepreneurial hustle. Hana is the Director of Marketing at Uberflip. Uberflip is a content marketing software that empowers marketers to control their content experience. Hana is also the founder of Wedding Republic, an online wedding registry for engaged couples.

Nicki Bridgland: a masterful Entrepreneur, Community Creator and Connector. After 7 years of working in the corporate world in Toronto and San Francisco, she pursued her dream of becoming self-employed. Nicki combined her passion for connection, play and business into founding Sport & Social Clubs in 9 cities across North America and Europe creating “Recess for Adults” for 14,000 weekly clients.
