As an avid reader, I have read many novels. Yet, very few have touched me the way four particular novels have. These books truly made me rethink the way I was living my life, while also touching my heart. They are a must-read for everybody and I guarantee you will enjoy them!

Just last night by Mhairi Mcfarlane

Just Last Night is an adult contemporary romance novel that follows the story of four best friends in their thirties who experience a great loss when one of them suddenly passes away.

This book completely and utterly broke me. I cried from beginning to end, it really truly touched me! Just Last Night was just one of those books that makes you sit back and think about life, how it is so short and life’s value. I also thought that this book did an amazing job of exploring grief and how it affects a person. It made me appreciate my friends and loved ones so much more.

how moon fuentez fell in love with the universe by Raquel Vasquez Gilliland

How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe is a young adult romance novel that deals with themes of purity culture, toxic religion, and body image.

This book completely exceeded all of my expectations. First of all, this book had one of the best enemies to lovers romances I have ever read! But it was so much more than a romance book, and it truly made me rethink my relationship with my body image. Growing up in a body that does not fit society’s ideal of beauty is so hard and can truly affect you, and Moon Fuentez portrayed that perfectly. While I am not plus-size, I could still heavily relate the main character’s relationship with her body. How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe made me feel okay with my body and helped me appreciate myself more.

Yolk by Mary h.K. Choi

Yolk is a young adult contemporary novel about two sisters who never really got along, coming together after one of them gets cancer. It features Korean-American representation and eating disorder representation.

This book was unlike anything I have ever read! I cried within the first 20 pages, and many times after that. It felt like I was reading a memoir, except with all the parts that people sweep under the carpet were out on display. The characters were beautifully flawed, and they felt so very human. Yolk made me rethink my familial relationships and made me think about just how precious family is. This book showed me that familial love is truly something special that cannot be replicated.

The Invisible life of Addie larue by v.e. schwab

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is an adult historical fantasy novel. The story starts off in the early 1700s, in France, where Addie is a woman with many dreams, but no way to fulfill them, as her life is not her own. On the eve of her wedding, she prays to the gods after dark and makes a deal for freedom and immortality. Little does she know that there’s a catch, no one will ever remember her, she can never leave a mark. But around 300 years later in New York, she finds someone who does remember.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue was a beautifully written story. Each character was explored so well, it was if their souls were transcribed onto words on paper. Addie LaRue is wonderfully human until she is not, becoming a work of art, an immortal thing. The history of this novel was so rich and beautiful and it made me love it even more. This book made me smile, laugh, cry and swoon, while also making me question my life, and look at it from a completely different perspective
