What It Means To Wear The Pants

Setting the highest expectations and standards for my style sometimes makes it complicated to find clothes that I think are classy and fashion forward at the same time.  Especially dress pants.  We’re college girls now.  When I’m doing presentations and dressing up to go to meetings and events, I don’t want to just throw on any old pair of pants to cover the law, I want something that reflects my personality:  classy, preppy, and chic.

I went to a Catholic high school in a small town (that I adored) where uniforms were a must, so if you had the newest dress pants from American Eagle tucked into UGGs, people looked at you like you were walking the runway.  But when I got to Michigan, the Diag held a completely different catwalk than the hallways of my high school.  It was full of girls pairing their UGGs with looks right off the pages of ELLE. I knew that in order to still be considered fashionable, I shouldn’t plan on transitioning my uniform to everyday class clothes; I needed to scrap the pants from when I was fifteen.  At our age, though, dress pants are difficult to wear because you can’t get a pair from Macy’s that makes you look like you’re thirty, either.  There’s a fine line, but sitting right on that line are Ann Taylor LOFT’s new leg-lengthening trousers.

LOFT’s pants are perfect for class presentations—you want to look classy, but not like you went overboard.  I wore the pants with a blouse and sweater to an English class where I led discussion and they perfectly reflected my need to look put together, but gave me great opportunities to accessorize with sparkly heels and an oversized watch.

The best thing about these pants is that they transition so well from presentation to relaxation.   I tried them on with a chiffon cheetah print tank, oversized Express sweater, and Steve Madden brown leather boots and they looked just as amazing as they did dressed up!

Wearing the pants doesn’t just mean selecting something at random in attempt to look classy or mature.  My favorite thing about wearing LOFT’s pants are that they transition so well into so many different looks! I can get away with wearing them several times without being deemed an outfit repeater! Wearing the pants means finding your personal style and accessorizing them to reflect that in as many different ways as you want!
