What About November?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

After the tricks and the treats, the creative costumes, funny Twitter names and everything else that comes with the season of Halloween — aka October — we tend to skip over November and go right to December. I get it, December has a lot of great holidays and happenings: the end of the semester, winter break, Christmas and Hanukkah and a myriad of other holidays, and of course getting ready to ring in the New Year! Even with the excitement of December so near, we shouldn’t ignore November and all the wonderful holidays it holds. Here are some important dates and holidays to watch out for in November!

November 6: Daylight Saving Time Ends

Especially for us college students, setting our clocks back an hour — making it feel like we’re getting an extra hour of sleep — is something to celebrate! Take advantage of the clock rolling back and catch up on some Z’s.

November 8: Election Day

Get out and vote! Do some research first and then do your part in deciding the next President of the United States, among the many other offices that must be filled this election season.

November 11: Veteran’s Day

Veterans deserve way more than just a thank you — the sacrifices that these men and women have made for the safety and wellbeing of our country are an irreplaceable aspect of our democracy. On this special day, be sure to thank these brave men and women for their service.

November 12: National Pizza with Everything Day

This one is for all you supreme pizza lovers out there: November 12 is the day to order your pizza with mushrooms, pineapple, green peppers, bacon, and seriously everything else you can think of! It even falls on a Saturday which means pizza for all three meals.

November 17: Great American Smokeout

American Cancer Society is determined to make America smoke free. What can you do to help? Have a friend or family member that smokes? Start a bet of some sort, set a goal, or anything else that you think might work to get one less person smoking.

November 21: World Television Day

Monday got you down? Find a new comedy on Netflix! Take a break from studying and homework and watch some TV because it’s World Television day so you can’t feel guilty because you’re just celebrating a holiday!

November 24: Thanksgiving

Pig out and be thankful! If you’ll be home enjoy the time with your loved ones. If you’ll be away from your loved ones, still pig out and be thankful with friends, instead! Whether you’ll be eating turkey or something prepared in a dorm, take a minute to recognize all the blessings in your life.

November 25: Black Friday

Need a new TV for your dorm? A microwave? That hair-wand you’ve been eyeing? Well today is the day to capitalize on some sales and get that “must-have” item! With almost every store having insane sales black Friday is a great day to hit the town with family and friends and treat yourself and your loved ones!

November 28: Cyber Monday

If you like online shopping, Cyber Monday is the day for you! Most sites have free shipping and other amazing deals so if you didn’t make it out on Black Friday, you can still get some greats things at great prices without leaving the couch.

You can look at these dates as just another day in November, or, celebrate them for the gems that they are! We all know once November is over the semester will fly by and be over before we know it. And then we’ll be on winter break!
