It’s no secret that as Collegiettes™, we sometimes find ourselves with a pile of work to do and very little motivation to actually complete it. In these situations, the only cure is a little procrastination. One of the best means of procrastination, which usually consists of some intense Facebook-stalking or the perusal of certain celebrity gossip websites, is the Internet. Next time though, why not make the most of your procrastination by checking out one of these witty, humorous, flat out entertaining blogs, with some great DIY ideas, funny articles, and lots of content to help you avoid productivity?

The key to successful procrastination, of course, is to eventually get the work done. My recommendation? Set a goal for yourself (for example, “I will write the introductory paragraph and THEN I can see what the Fug Girls are up to.”) And in case you’re wondering, yes, I did get the idea for this story as I was attempting to write two research papers on a Sunday afternoon.

The Top Five Blogs to Read When You’re Procrastinating: (where 1 is “READ THIS BLOG NOW, I’m obsessed!” and 5 is “This one is also pretty great, and WAY better than actually doing any work”)

1. GoFugYourself

If you haven’t already come across this blog, you haven’t been using your Internet connection to its full potential. The Fug Girls (bloggers Heather and Jessica) are like your catty, fashionista best friends, but so incredibly witty and hilarious that nothing they say can ever actually be considered rude or obnoxious. From their fashion analyses of TV shows like Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie, to their pieces written in the voice of J.Lo, everything they write is highly entertaining. I could write an entire article about how great this blog is, but instead I will leave it at this: go read Go Fug Yourself now. You’re welcome.

2. Thought Catalog

This blog, which calls itself “A digital mag of culture. A catalog of thought,” can always be trusted to have something worth reading. From pieces like “The Different Types of Doomed Crushes There Are,” (including “The Has-Unforgivably-Weird-Parents Crush” and “The Hollywood-(Not A)-Hunk Crush”) to “Make Friends Like It’s The Sandlot or Stand by Me,” Thought Catalogue provides consistently unique, thoughtful, and entertaining content.

3. The Cut

The Cut is New York Magazine’s fashion blog, so you can be sure it’s good. Well, if you like New York Magazine, that is.  This is a great blog to visit if you want a quick update on the fashion world, without feeling like you’re getting dumber in the process of the update. It’s the absolute best source for those must-read stories for the culturally aware, like “Mario Lopez Designs Underwear Now” and “Selma Blair is Going Bald; Taylor Swift Has Bangs Now.” You know, those stories.

4. Children of the Nineties

Being a child of the nineties is a point of pride. What other generation can say that they grew up in the time of Mr. Feeny, quality Disney Channel shows, and beanie baby collections? Check out Children of the Nineties if you feel like taking a walk down memory lane. If you ever feel the need to think about teen heart-throbs of the nineties (Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Shawn from Boy Meets World) or learn where the casts of All That and Clarissa Explains it All are today, this blog should be your first stop.

5. Vulture

While Vulture isn’t technically blog, it’s included in this list because it is just that good. Vulture is the Entertainment section of New York Magazine, and it’s a great source for short, snappy entertainment news. Its episode recaps of Gossip Girl, alone, are reason to check it out.

If you’re having one of those days where five blogs just won’t provide the level of distraction you need, here are some other great blogs to read:

The Budget Babe
Grub Street
Smitten Kitchen
Design Sponge
Cupcakes and Cashmere
