There’s nothing quite like revisiting an old favorite TV show, especially when you’re in college and need an escape from exams, group projects, and the general wear-and-tear of life. Whether you’re looking for comfort, comedy, or just something binge-worthy, these nostalgic shows are perfect to rewatch, or if you’ve never seen them, they’re worth diving into now! These series have stood the test of time—and they’re just as entertaining today as they were when they first aired.
The X-Files (1993-2002 (well, technically 2018))Â
Aliens, government conspiracies, and the most iconic FBI duo of all time—The X-Files is the perfect throwback for anyone who loves a mix of mystery, sci-fi, and 90s nostalgia. Watching Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) chase after the unexplained is still as thrilling as ever. Now, I might be a little biased here since this is my all-time favorite TV show, but I believe nothing beats an X-Files binge day. Whether you’re watching for the first time or rewatching for the hundredth, it never gets old. Not only did The X-Files influence an entire generation of sci-fi and crime dramas, but it also made pop culture history—the phrase “to ship” a couple was first used by X-Files fans who desperately wanted Mulder and Scully to get together. If you’ve ever found yourself rooting for two characters to finally admit their feelings, you have The X-Files fandom to thank.
House M.D (2004-2012)
If you love medical dramas but need something with a little more sarcasm and morally questionable decisions, then House M.D. is for you. Hugh Laurie’s Dr. Gregory House is a genius diagnostician with zero bedside manner and his brutally honest attitude and wit make this show endlessly entertaining. Every episode is essentially a medical mystery, but it’s the character dynamics (and just House’s entire character) that make it worth the watch.
Supernatural (2005-2020)Â
Before there was Stranger Things, there was Supernatural! It starts as a simple “monster of the week” show but quickly evolves into something bigger—packed with action, heart, and unexpected humor. And let’s be honest—part of Supernatural’s appeal is that Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are, objectively, two of the best-looking men to ever grace our TV screens. Maybe I’m so obsessed with it because I once sat next to Jared on a plane, but either way, there’s something about this show that keeps you coming back.Â
Okay, you may have noticed that I like mystery shows… so I’m sorry if that’s not your vibe! The next one on the list does deviate from the mystery theme.
New Girl (2011-2018)
Few shows are as effortlessly feel-good as New Girl. Whether you’re here for Schmidt’s (Max Greenfield) one-liners (“its onnn”), Nick Miller’s (Jake Johnson) grumpy charm, or Jess’s (Zooey Deschanel) quirky optimism, this show just makes you feel happy. It’s the perfect rewatch when you need a break from reality—lighthearted, hilarious, and full of characters who feel like old friends. Plus, Winston’s (Lamorne Morris) obsession with his cat, Ferguson, never stops being funny to me. No matter how many times you’ve seen it, New Girl is always a classic.
So, next time you need a break from homework or just want something familiar, consider throwing on one of these classics and enjoy the nostalgia.
