The Ten Best Thanksgiving TV Show Episodes Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

It’s that time of the year again! The best time – full of family, friends, and lots of food. Pump yourself up before the big day with ten of the best Thanksgiving episodes on TV (or Netflix) in no particular order! PS: After writing this article I realized that most Thanksgiving episodes are episodes 8 or 9. ~spooky~

1. Friends: “The One With All The Thanksgivings,” Season 5 Episode 8

There is no way to start off this article if not with Friends – a TV show notorious for so many Thanksgiving episodes that it was hard to pick. But turkeys stuck on heads, Chandler’s first “I love you” to Monica, and a flashback of Monica accidentally chopping off part of Chandler’s toe? It doesn’t get better than that.

2. Gossip Girl: “Blair Waldorf Must Pie,” Season 1 Episode 9

Hey, Upper East Siders. This one, like Friends, has too many great Thanksgiving episodes to choose from but let’s start with the first and best. Classic Blair-Serena drama, classic Humphrey-Van der Woodsen drama, and flashbacks to show how Dan first met Serena stoned – watch and end up binging GG the night before Thanksgiving!

3. How I Met Your Mother: “Slapsgiving,” Season 3 Episode 9

There are so many Slapsgivings but they all start with this one. Lily and Marshall’s first Thanksgiving as a married couple, obvious Ted-Robin angst, and best of all, the slap bet between Barney and Marshall – all the ingredients for a great episode!

4. The Office: “Wuph.com,” Season 7 Episode 9

So this one’s a little less Thanksgiving oriented than the others, but no “Best Episodes” list is ever complete without at least one episode from The Office. Dwight (the greatest TV character ever, IMO) organizes a hay festival in the parking lot – and you know you wish you were there!

5. Gilmore Girls: “A Deep Korean Fried Thanksgiving,” Season 3 Episode 9

Very few shows are as heartwarming as Gilmore Girls, and this episode featuring a fantastic Mrs. Kim Thanksgiving, a drunk Sookie, and a classic Gilmore family fight is the perfect way to curl up and prepare yourself to eat just like Rory and Lorelai, who attended ~ four ~ Thanksgivings in a day.

6. Modern Family: “Three Turkeys,” Season 6 Episode 8

The best way to prepare to meet your entire extended family is to watch the Modern Family group navigate theirs! Modern Family always seems to end in the same message – that at the end of the day, family is what matters.

7. Pretty Little Liars: “Taking This One To The Grave,” Season 5 Episode 12

An unusual Thanksgiving – crime scene, texts from A, Spencer’s arrest… but what can you expect from PLL? Mourn the ending of the series (that tied up maybe 12% of loose ends) and spook yourself out this Thanksgiving!

8. That 70’s Show: “Thanksgiving,” Season 1 Episode 9

Eric-Donna, forgetting a grandma… This episode of That ‘70s Show will make you laugh and honestly, be glad your family doesn’t forget Grandma on Thanksgiving!

9. Grey’s Anatomy: “Thanks For The Memories,” Season 2 Episode 9

Izzie tries to make a Thanksgiving meal, George tries to fit in with the O’Malley family, Cristina & Meredith & Alex hide out – treat yourself to some good old-fashioned Grey’s, when all the best characters were still around!

10. Friends: “The One With The Football,” Season 3 Episode 9

Okay, I know I already mentioned Friends before. But they just have the best episodes! This one features Geller sibling rivalry and a fun game of touch football, so sit back, relax, and binge!
