Hey y’all, it is time for spring break! Time for going home, spending time with the family, eating and sleeping a lot, and not thinking once about homework (well, we wish for the last one). But spring break is also the time to see a whole new place (with safe COVID practices). I recently went to Miami, and while I was there, I thought “oh, how I wish I was here for longer- perhaps during spring break?” And then, I immediately thought this would be a location to immediately share with you all my favorite tourist spots for your own Miami vacation. 1. Miami Design District One of the first things I visited in Miami was the Miami design district. There were all sorts of cool shops here! From Gucci and Chanel to restaurants, this place has a good variety of things to see. Try out Mia Market Miami, a place with around 5 restaurants inside to try out and a beautiful area to eat outdoors. In the area with most shops, there are a bunch of modern art sculptures that are amazing to take pictures with, so go try those out and then head over to the ice cream and cookie shops! This place was incredibly fun to visit, and there is something for everyone, from window-browsing and ogling high-end clothes (or buying if you can!), to finding little restaurants, the Design District has much to offer! 2. Bayside Marketplace The Bayside Marketplace was my favorite Miami location I visited. The first thing I did was go straight to the Ferris Wheel by the harbor. The line moved so quickly, and we went around the loop 6 or 7 times! Although, it was a bit weird how the speakers blasted the Final Countdown. But, seeing mostly all of Miami along the water was incredibly beautiful. Next, I went to this little stand in the middle of the shops. This sold coconut ice cream and shakes. So amazing and not too expensive, I have not gotten something as similar as this anywhere else: the ice cream came in a coconut shell! Additionally, this is a wonderful place for much more affordable shopping than the Design District. So many stores including Victoria Secret (I checked- the prices were not more than the average VS outlet!), Crocs, and more are there to checkout. This market also has a lot of local merchant stalls, which I highly recommend. 3. Wynwood Walls I loved going around Wynwood Walls! This area is filled with artists who have made their own art on the buildings and walls! The art is amazing, and offers a great spot to get your vacation photos in. Additionally, there are so many affordable and fun restaurants and dessert stores around here! I saw so many that I wish I had the time to try. For food, I do recommend going to The Oasis. This is an accessible area with some music and about 5 or 6 food trucks that make impeccable food. This area also was so busy during the day and had so many people going around that made Wynwood Walls honestly just incredibly fun. 4. Additional Recommendation: Meet some of the people! I loved the culture of Miami, and I additionally loved meeting some of the people. There is so much culture here, especially Hispanic culture- as Miami has a 2,554,000 Miami population (https://www.pewresearch.org/hispanic/interactives/hispanic-population-in-select-u-s metropolitan-areas/)- I even got to practice my Spanish a bit. This was so special about Miami, and I highly recommend going deeper than being a tourist- really try to get to know some of the people, the experience will be more memorable! That is all for now. I hope you enjoy your trip to Miami. Just beware, you might not want to come back to class!
