NY Fashion Week Recap

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

September 5th marked the beginning of New York Fashion Week. Designers lined up to present their newest spring ready-to wear collect-ons for the world.  Although it is only the start of fall, designers show their spring collections in order for buyers to prepare for the next season. Some of my favorite collections were from J.Crew, Nanette Lepore, and Rag and Bone. I really liked that these designers had pieces that could be easily incorporated into my daily wardrobe.

J. Crew never fails to impress. The Spring 14 collection is inspired by a California summer, which is revealed through bright colors, prints, and patterns. The three looks that I highlighted combine simple pieces with a bright or printed piece. All of these outfits are very wearable and feel fun yet polished and sophisticated.  Plus, as a Los Angeles girl, the styles made me feel right at home!

Nanette Lepore utilizes light and airy fabrics that make for a whimsical collection. She mixes neutrals with bright pastels to create a fairy-like look. Each silhouette moves very well. Lepore’s collection makes me feel like I’m in an enchanted garden.

Finally, Rag and Bone’s collection brings an edgy twist on spring. I really like the black accents on these two outfits. The bright blue dress with black detail is comfortable and versatile for the spring, while the second outfit is wearable, yet trendy. The leather pants add an avant-garde spin while the pale peach top softens the outfit and makes it ideal for spring.

Each of these designers bring a unique perspective to their spring 2014 collections. I can’t wait to see more from the London, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks that are coming up soon!
