Nathanial Rosenblum: Chief Marketing Officer of University Sublet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

Nathanial Rosenblum, originally from Park City, Utah, is now a sophomore in the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and is quickly making his mark on Ann Arbor. Nathanial, with the help of several peers, recently launched University Sublet – the first student-run, full-service subletting company in Ann Arbor. Not only was Nathanial able to set his idea into motion, but, as Chief Marketing Officer, he is working on expanding his already-successful company to other schools around the country. Nathanial is living proof that you don’t have to wait until graduation to pursue your goals and as students, have the ability to change our community with one great idea.

Her Campus: What is University Sublet and how can it serve U of M students?

Nathaniel Rosenblum: University Sublet is a subletting company that facilitates a seamless transition from the original tenant to a subleaser.  You can just go on the website, create an account, and request information about properties that are listed or even list your own property for lease. By listing your own property, you have the freedom to set your own price, and provide a brief description of your unit.

HC: That’s so convenient – is this service limited to only apartments in the Ann Arbor area?

NR: Although our initial focus was on apartments, we have expanded to houses as well.

HC: University Sublet is definitely going to change the housing game. How did you come up with this idea?

NR: Last year, I was approached by a fellow classmate in Calculus class with an idea  to develop a subletting company to address the problem of affordable housing as well as alleviate the stress and simplify the process to obtain a subleaser without having to rely on social media. I thought it was genius and we started pursuing the idea in May.

HC: Housing in Ann Arbor is such a hassle, especially trying to sublease a property. What advice would you give to those going abroad and looking to sublease?

NR: We are currently working with Ross Global Initiatives in order to help pair University Sublet with students who are studying abroad, as well as people are worried about leasing apartments while they’re abroad. I would definitely suggest looking into University Sublet and letting us help you alleviate some financial stress – twenty minutes on our website can save you a ton of money.

HC: Where do you see University Sublet going in the future?

NR: We definitely hope to increase – we’ve already received offers from other schools (such as the University of Illinois) to expand onto other campuses around the country.
