Michigan Housing Wars 2K16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

Raise your hand if you have ever been personally victimized by University of Michigan Housing.

For many returning undergrads, the first two weeks of February were almost as stressful as midterms. When university housing sign-up went live, little did they know that it would be like World War III. Roommates and locations were picked out and all they had to do was click a button for their homes to be secured for Fall Term 2016. Sounds pretty simple right? Well, triple and quad dorm options were gone in hours. Quickly following this, doubles and singles on central campus were disappearing too. Okay, you guess we you settle for the Hill then. But even those options were far, far gone.

Many students had high hopes at the beginning of the housing process, hopefully getting prime locations such as North Quad or South Quad. Given, there were people that got great dorm rooms, but for the rest of the student body who decided to live on campus again, they were only left with one option: North Campus. Picking between Northwood and Bursley is quite a hard decision; it’s like picking the lesser of two evils. And for those handful of Wolverines that are on North for a second year… life just ain’t fair now, is it?

By some saving grace, some students were able to scrape together some last-minute, off-campus housing. Whether it be a suddenly vacant apartment, the last spot in a house, or living with 50 other people in a frat/sorority house, it’s a place to live that is not cardboard box. We salute you resourceful scavengers, and we hang our heads for those who now live up above (North Campus)… you will be remembered. Good luck out there Victors, and my the odds be ever in your favor.
