Meet Meredith Bury: a well-rounded, enthusiastic and driven sophomore. Meredith is a BBA major in the Ross School of Business, a member of the Rotaract service club, a research assistant for Arts at Michigan and a member of the Michigan Business Club. However, her most recent and most noteworthy accomplishment was her organization and planning of the Detroit Sound Fest through the new on-campus club, Crowd 313. I recently had to opportunity to sit down with Meredith and learn about the details of her major role in this exciting event.
Â
HC: What is Crowd 313?
MB: Crowd 313 is a new student org on campus that’s dedicated to making students aware and excited about Detroit. Â There’s so much bad stigma surrounding the city and we want to change that through on-campus events, meaningful trips to different areas of Detroit and articles written by students and guest contributors on our website.
Â
HC: What is your position in Crowd 313?
MB: I’m the head of the on-campus event committee.
Â
HC: What was the purpose of the Detroit Sound Fest?
MB: We wanted to introduce Crowd 313 to the U of M community and showcase some of the budding music and culinary talent from Detroit.
Â
HC: What was your role in the Detroit Sound Fest?
MB: I worked with my committee to coordinate all of the logistics of the event, from booking the vendors and musicians to developing a marketing campaign to get the word out.Â
Â
HC: What was your favorite part about the Detroit Sound Fest?
MB: I really enjoyed seeing the reactions of everyone who came to the event. Â Whether they came to the space specifically to see the bands or if they just happened to walk in after passing by, everyone seemed to really enjoy what we put together. Â Seeing reactions like that make me feel that all of our work was truly worthwhile and motivate me to keep planning new events.Â
Â
HC: How can other students get involved with Crowd 313?
MB: Shoot us an email at crowd-313@umich.edu, or just feel free to stop by a meeting! Â We meet on Wednesdays at 8pm in the back of the first floor of the Ugli.
Â
I was lucky enough that Meredith had enough time to share additional information about herself that allows us to realize that being driven and smart does not mean we need to compromise having fun and enjoying life.Â
Â
HC: What do you like to do in your free time?
MB: Free time seems to be few and far between at U of M, but when I have extra time I enjoy cooking, singing, hanging out with friends and spending quality time with my Netflix account.
Â
HC: What is your favorite part about The University of Michigan?
MB: I love the diversity of the student population. Â Crowd 313 has especially shown me how many unique points of view and great ideas can be generated when students with tons of different interests and majors from art to business who come from everywhere from Detroit to Germany work together on something they’re passionate about.
Â
From community service, to hanging out with her friends, to spending late nights at Ross, Meredith is an amazing role model for other girls who aspire to be well-rounded, dedicated and inspiring individuals.
