This week, my friends and I were sitting together, laughing and smiling about all of the fun memories we made together this school year. I thought about how many of us had started the school year off as strangers and are ending the year as best friends.
As a sophomore, my year has definitely been more chaotic than last year. While this has made for more friends, experiences, and growth, it has also left less time for spontaneous, outings that are “just for fun” with my friends. We have talked about going so many places and doing so many things, but now, when we open up our Google Calendars, there are only so many weeks left.
So, I thought it would be fun—and hold me accountable—if I created a list of recommendations for finishing this school year off with moments of fun, laughter, friends, and joy! While we are at the University of Michigan to learn and build our professional knowledge, it is also a time for self-growth, relationships, and experiences with those around us. Most of us only get to do undergrad once, so we might as well appreciate it while it’s still here.
Below are activities and things both on my bucket list and others that you might enjoy:
- Go out for dinner with friends – try a new restaurant on Main Street or somewhere different from your normal dinner out!
- Get tickets to a U-M athletics game—there’s more to school sports than football!
- Go see a musical, play, or performing arts show
- Look into student group performances (dance clubs, etc.)
- Go see a band perform downtown
- Have a picnic or take a walk in the arboretum once it gets nice out
- Plan a movie night
- Cook dinner at home with friends
- Have a game night
Whatever it is, just let it be something that brightens your day or week! The semesters fly by, so while we still have some weeks of this semester remaining, let’s all try to be more intentional about making the most of our time together!
