How to Feel Fabulous Every Single Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

Summer is the season of bikinis, mussed-up beach waves, and bright little sundresses. Don’t let a negative (and, let’s be honest, totally distorted) body image stop you from having fun. Use these tips to chill out, feel great, and put your most confident (and cutely pedicured) foot forward.

Hang Out with Friends Who Make You Feel Good

We all know that girl – the one who makes snide remarks about the way everyone else looks just to make herself feel better. This summer, ditch her… or at least make it a point to change the subject when she goes on one of her rants.

Take a Hike

Exercising will release mood-boosting endorphins – and make you look killer in that new swimsuit. Go to the gym with a friend for fun and support, or walk the dog with your mom. Even little activities like running through the sprinklers with the kids you babysit will make a difference.

Throw a Private Dance Party

… And by private, we mean really private – like, only you. Turn on some upbeat tunes, put on your favorite outfit, and go a little crazy in front of the mirror. Acting goofy when you’re alone will make you feel pumped up and positive about going out later.

Put On Some Pumps

Wearing heels not only makes you look fab, but also sends the message that you feel totally confident and unafraid of standing out from the crowd.

Pause the Texting

Do you really need to check Facebook every time you find yourself standing alone? Next time you’re in a place with strangers – whether it’s at a party, in an elevator, or on the subway – put down your phone and enjoy some you time, even if it’s only for a minute.

Wear Red

This power color will give off a vibe similar to your heels: it signals to everyone around you that you want to stand out – and that’s totally a good thing.

Give Yourself a Break

It’s easy to blame yourself for every little thing – whether it’s the not-so-stellar grade you got last semester, or the minute imperfections you see when you put on your swimsuit. But next time you find yourself feeling this way, make your insecurities into goals, a la, “I will get this many A’s next semester.” Or, better yet, try to remember that everyone judges themselves much more harshly than other people judge them. While you’re staring at your “tummy,” that cute guy on the beach is probably worrying about his skinny arms.

Give Back

Volunteering is a great way to take focus off yourself and help others at the same time. If you’re interning in an unfamiliar city for the summer, use volunteering as a way to make new friends – many cities have groups that meet up periodically to do good and meet new people.
