Do you need some extra me-time after three back-to-back classes? Do you want to play something family friendly over the weekend? Or do you just crave a good time? Here’s four of the most sought-after games you should try out once finals are over!

Tomodachi life: Living the Dream

If you’ve ever grown up with the Wii, you may recognize the little Mii characters you could make on the system that were included in various games, like Wii Sports. But did you know that you could interact with them? That’s right! Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is an all-new take on the 3DS’s older game, Tomodachi Life. This new game allows creators to make Mii’s live together on an island full of happiness, silliness, and fun! These characters give creators a bunch of creativity, whether it’s what they look like, how they act, or even what they wear. This game is essential if you want to have a good laugh. You can even connect your device with friends, and share Mii’s across screens, allowing for even more chaos. I just bought the game myself, and as an avid player of the 3DS version, I can say that this new game is a total upgrade. It has also kept me sane during these last few weeks of college, and it’s exciting getting to create my friends and family. I definitely recommend this to anyone who has played the Wii, Animal Crossing, or any game that’s remotely similar! This game is available on Nintendo Switch.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

Ever needed something to break the ice in a large group of people or while having friends over for a sleepover? One of my favorite games to play is Super Mario Party Jamboree! This video game includes over 100 minigames, custom choices, and some extremely integrated maps built for a family-friendly environment. In this game, players roll the dice to race other players across the board in order to reach a star, and whoever ends up having the most wins! Depending on where you land, there can be all types of outcomes from getting extra coins, battling in a competition mini-game, or even landing on an un-lucky Bowser Space! I definitely recommend this game to anyone who’s not looking to pull out their dusty Monopoly, or to someone who’s looking for a bit of a challenge. In my experience, you don’t have to play with a bunch of people, but I’d say it’s much more enjoyable. This game is available on the Nintendo Switch, as well.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

At first sight, I used to think this game was just for teenage boys because the premise is all about fighting. But, after having a couple years of experience, I can say this game is for anyone who loves a good competition and reward system. This game incorporates more than 50 special fighting characters apart from the original seven, and has a multitude of uniquely different maps one can fight on. It includes online and offline mode, and incorporates challenges which one can do in order to get more powerful characters. My favorite character to play is Sora from the Kingdom Hearts series, but there are so many others that are just as cool! This game can get heated, so be prepared to fight against others who are super-skilled, and hungry for the crown. I recommend first playing against computers to get acclimated to all of the controls, then playing against people online or family friends. This game is available on the Nintendo Switch.

Princess Peach Showtime!

Sometimes when I played Super Mario Bros. when I was a kid, I wished to go through all of the adventures as Peach instead of Mario, because I desperately wanted to be a pretty princess. And now I can with Princess Peach Showtime! This game allows players to play as the lovely Princess Peach, who sets on an adventure to save the Sparkle Theater from the Grape and the Sour Bunch’s wrath. This game permits power-ups and transformations like never before, and includes various custom Peach-themed outfits for the player to acquire, and customized options for her sidekick, Stella! I haven’t played this one yet, but I’ve heard nothing short of amazing reviews from those who have spent hours playing. If this sounds like something right up your alley, I definitely recommend it to de-stress! This game is available on the Nintendo Switch.

I know that finals can be tough, but hang in there! As college students, we should all prioritize our mental and physical health before grades, and these amazing game recommendations are just one of the many ways you can look after yourself in this time of high-stakes stress. Just remember, that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and you’re almost there. Happy finals season, and congratulations on another year, you deserve it!

Hello! My name is Mareme Diop, and I am a freshman English major at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor. I am deeply passionate about storytelling, critical analysis, and the power of language, which is what drew me to pursue English as my field of study. In addition to my major, I plan to follow a Pre-Law track, as I am interested in how writing, argumentation, and advocacy intersect within the legal field. This semester, I am currently enrolled in 18 credits, balancing a rigorous academic schedule while continuing to grow both intellectually and creatively.
Beyond the classroom, I am a Writer and Social Media Representative for HerCampus UMich, where I contribute written content and help shape the organization’s online presence. Through this role, I have developed strong skills in digital communication, audience engagement, and creative expression, all while collaborating with other student writers and leaders.
Outside of academics and campus involvement, I have a strong love for the arts. I enjoy singing, reading, and musical theatre, and I find that creative outlets allow me to explore identity, emotion, and storytelling in meaningful ways. Whether it’s performing, analyzing literature, or discovering new music, creativity plays a central role in my life.
I am always excited to connect with others who share similar interests or want to discuss academics, the arts, or campus involvement—so feel free to reach out!
