7 Ann Arbor Businesses to Support this Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

The holiday season is officially upon us, which means that, for many of us, it’s time to start searching for the perfect gift for our loved ones. Before you stress out and resort Amazon to search for presents, take a deep breath. Holiday shopping should be a fun experience, and, as students at the University of Michigan, we live in one of the cutest towns in the world! If you’re unfamiliar with the countless local businesses at your disposal, check out this list– and then head downtown to see for yourself!

1. Found

Found, which is located in the Kerrytown Market & Shops building, is owned by Mary Cambruzzi, a former school teacher with a knack for antiquing. She started out with a booth at an antique store and found she really loved it, so ended up opening Found. However, Found is far from an antique store. In fact, it has a little bit of everything. This is a great place to shop for someone who loves unique local goods, like candles, mugs, and home decor.

2. Literati

Literati may be one most famous book stores in Ann Arbor, and for good reason! It always seems to have a warm, welcoming vibe that just sucks you in and makes you want to read forever. Plus, the upstairs is an adorable little coffee shop, so you can sip a latte while reading a new book. Literati also hosts readings and other unique events, so makes sure to check them out.

3. Downtown Home and Garden

Despite its name, Downtown Home and Garden has way more than just gardening supplies (although it does have a lot of those). In reality, Downtown Home and Garden is one of Ann Arbor’s most iconic stores, and it’s one of its oldest. The building has been around for so long that it still has a place to park your horse. Downtown Home and Garden is a great place to purchase bird seed, cook books, flowers, and beautiful Polish pottery. (Seriously, it’s beautiful.) Plus, while you’re there, you can pet Wallace the Cat, who lives there!

4. Spun Yarn Store

Do you have someone in your family who loves to knit? Check out Spun Yarn Store to buy that person a gift! Spun, which is located in Kerrytown Market & Shops, carries the nicest, softest yarn you can buy, in all of the most beautiful colors. Plus, it frequently holds classes and workshops, so if someone is still learning how to knit, they can always come by and learn more!

5. MDen

MDen is one of the best places to buy University of Michigan apparel, and you already know that all of your relatives want to be decked out in the block M this holiday season. It carries Michigan’s relatively new Jordan gear, which is really nice, as well as Victoria’s Secret PINK for the girls in your life (and some cheaper brands for when you’re not ready to splurge). Recently declared your major? Make sure to get everyone you know a Michigan Biology shirt…and a mug…and a bumper sticker.

6. Thistle & Bess

Thistle & Bess is a great place to buy vintage/hand-crafted candles, cards, journals, jewelry, plants, and home decor. It’s located in the Kerrytown District, and a lot of its products are either local or from London. If you need a place to find a cute, fun, and unique gift for a family member, this is the place to go! Plus, it hosts lots of fun events, so if you ever need something to do on a weekend, check out its website.

7. Mighty Good Coffee

If your loved ones reside near Ann Arbor, then there’s no better gift than a Mighty Good gift card. Mighty Good is one of the most popular coffee joints in Ann Arbor, which locations on Main Street and South U. If you visit the flagship location on Main Street, the store features a toast bar and pastries as well!
